Dear Waze Development Team,
I would like to suggest a new feature to help guide new map editors and improve local map data quality: Gamified Editing Quests.
Currently, new editors (Level 1) often find it challenging to figure out where to start or how to make meaningful contributions to reach Level 2. At the same time, many local areas have missing or incomplete map details.
Proposed Feature:
Add a dedicated “Quests” or “Tasks” tab in the Waze Map Editor (WME) that provides editors with small, personalized weekly or daily micro-tasks based on data gaps in their immediate local area.
Examples of Quests:
“Complete street names for 5 unnamed roads in your neighborhood this week.”
“Verify turn restrictions or driving directions for 3 nearby intersections.”
“Add missing house numbers or business details in your local area.”
Why This Helps:
1. Clear Guidance for New Editors: It replaces the guesswork with actionable goals, helping new editors reach their 1,000-edit threshold faster and more effectively.
2. Targeted Map Improvements: It directly addresses local data gaps by encouraging editors to focus on what their neighborhood actually needs.
3. Higher Engagement: Incorporating gamification elements will keep volunteer editors motivated and active over time.
