Hey everyone,
A great example of how the Waze community can support a successful event: On
April 20, 2024 the French community was there to support the 24 Heures Le Mans Race, an event with more than 50K attendants and tens of thousands of vehicles. Read the full story from drslump34 below:
The weekend of April 20, 2024 took place the 24 Heures Motos endurance race in Le Mans, France. Organized by our partner Automobile Club de l’Ouest , this event welcomed nearly 52,000 visitors and tens of thousands of vehicles at its peak on Saturday.
Waze and its Waze for Cities tools are at the heart of the event’s security and monitoring center.
When a difficulty is detected (jam, accident, vehicule on shoulder…) thanks to the Traffic View (live traffic and watchlists), the information is confirmed by nearly 200 motorized cameras installed within the perimeter. Immediately, law enforcement officers are sent to the site to ease traffic flow, and traffic directions are modified in real time on Waze to direct users on the correct route.
A system which has proven itself throughout the 2023 season, and which will be put into practice again for the GP Moto France in May, the 24 Heures Le Mans in June, the 24 Heures Camions in September, and for nearly 7 major events in 2025!!!
I am personally present on certain dates to support the Automobile Club de l’Ouest in helping with monitoring, decision-making, and the implementation of restrictions in real time.
Because experience is the occasion for great opportunities, here after I am sharing with you some photos of the command post, as well as the privilege of having been installed in the stands, during the race.
