why has the gas station prices feature been removed in Germany?
I use the latest version on iOS.
Am I maybe just not seeing the option to turn it on again?

Yes. It’s gone.
Prices were always too outdated compared to other apps.
German Community tried hard to get waze connected to the official gas prize database but had no luck so far
But they’re still working on it?

I’m sad too. Aich if the price was often wrong, you could see a tendency. How about if the Wazer can continue to enter prices and an average price is calculated for the gas stations? My fuel costs have increased since removing this feature.

From what I have heard, since the countrywide fuel price database was implemented, the fuel prices have been firstly very volatile (multiple changes per day, some of 10 or 20 cents or more were quite common) and secondly more uniform (so it mattered less which station you drove to – if station A changed its price down 5 cents, chances are that station B has been monitoring the database and will quickly drop its price by 5 cents as well to match it).
Another effect of the quick and multiple changes is that by the time you arrive at your chosen “cheap” filling station, it may have raised prices again, either in response to other price raises in the vicinity or by itself (in which case nearby stations will likely follow suit as well).
Thus the price feature became much less useful unless it has up-to-the minute information; even information that is three hours old is about as useless as information that is three weeks old. This means that Waze would have to get automatic access to the countrywide database feed; just relying on manual updating by individual Wazers is not nearly fast enough. (Not until every second driver in Germany is a Wazer, at least.)
So for now, you will need to use a different app that does have access to this central feed.
