Hi everyone,
Love the application but it uses a lot of data. I have to be careful and anyone with capped data. I took a trip and it took like 800 megs of data.
Take care.

Did you drive twice around the world?
That seems a bit much. I don’t think Waze has used 800 MB of data on my phone in 9 months. In fact, my total data usage including everything for the past 2 months is only 339 MB incoming and 55.2 MB outgoing.
Seriously, I’d check out what’s going on in the background. Waze would never use that much data!

I will keep an eye on it. I took a trip of 800 miles. ![]()
I am a heavy user driving at least 80 miles a day, performing map refreshes almost weekly and a beta tester, and I have never had waze go over 300 megs a month for me. If you have ICS you can look to see how much data your apps has used. If not there might be an app that you can download that will track your data usage. If you are rooted a firewall might be in order as well.
I was wondering the same thing. For the first time I broke 1GB of usage on my iPhone4. My data use is Waze for reporting issues on the road, Gmail, FB, & Twitter. I’m not bitching & complaining but just want to know if data usage for the new options such as finding places & reporting gas prices cost me more data in a big way?
Oh, and are there any apps out there that I can use that will show my data usage by app?

If so, this is just happening on certain versions of Waze. Just checked my iPhone again, and since my post on July 4, I’ve got another 13 MB received.
Are you guys streaming music while you’re on the road or something?
The way to test this (on iOS) is the next time you get on the road, shut down all other apps, reset your data usage, and then check it again after you’re done with Waze.
In the waze 3.x version, if you trust it, it will tell you how much data has been used in the current session.
menu->settings->advanced->data transfer.
Don’t know about the iOS version, but a good android tool is My Data Manager, it’s rather comprehensive and it’s FREE. And while I’ve not used the iOS version, there is a version for iOS as well and it too is free.
Again, I guarantee and will put money on it that something else you’re doing or have downloaded is using this. It will not be Waze 100%.

‘My Data Manager’ currently had a 5* rating in the Apple App Store. Thanks for pointing out this App. I am going to check it out.
I’ve been running it for the past few days, and Waze fell into second place each day, but still very little data…less than a MB during my normal daily driving. I didn’t do any streaming music or anything like that while using this.
Problem is, on detailed mode, it sucks down the battery, even when the phone is asleep. So I switched it to the coarse mode today, which doesn’t keep track of each app. It still shows how much data has been used on Wifi and on Mobile, and even on Roaming, if there is such a thing anymore.
Next time I take a road trip, I’ll switch it over to detailed again so that I can see what Waze uses over the long term.
I’m seeing that OS Services uses a lot, which is passive, but seems to not go over 1 MB on mobile, so I guess it waits for Wifi to do the majority of its work. Something called iMoXing uses a lot also, and I can’t find any info anywhere about what that is. Twitter seems to use quite a bit also.
NP this thread prompted me to go looking. And I must say after loading it on my iPod I like the iOS version better, it’s more informative with more features.
