Approved Bulk Action Categories
Scripts designed for bulk updates should focus on the following categories to improve map consistency:
-
Closure Assistance: Managing real-time and planned closures, including maintaining presets, cloning existing closures, and bulk-deleting expired reports to streamline traffic event management
-
Property Auto-loading: Automating data entry for specific entities and standardizing alternate names for gas stations.
-
Speed Limit Standardization:
-
Batch adding default speed limits to segments where no data currently exists
-
Removing speed limits from unused directions
-
-
Map Maintenance & Integrity:
-
Auto-locking: Automatically locking recently edited segments to a predefined level to prevent regressions.
-
Geometry Simplification: Actions that simplify complex or redundant geometry to improve map rendering and routing.
-
Naming Checks: Automated validation and standardization of segment naming conventions.
-
-
Mass Address Imports: In specific regions (e.g., India) where there is a high volume of new data, scripts may assist in adding large-scale address points, provided the source is approved.
Compliance & Accountability
- Transparency: Any script performing the actions above must have its code available in GitHub (e.g, wazedev repository).
- Blocking Policy: Scripts that perform “pure edit farming” (edits made solely for points without improving map quality) and/or are not part of the approved bulk actions categories mentioned above will be blocked, and the author may face a ban from map editing
Internal Note for Editors:
Bulk updates are powerful tools for scale, but they do not replace local knowledge. If a script’s auto-naming or auto-locking logic conflicts with local community standards, the local community should be involved with the decision
