As a part of our Mentor Recruitment campaign (post with more details), we’re sending an email to all L4-L6 inviting them to apply to become mentors.
This email will support the Manual mentoring program (not the automated one, run through the Profile page) and will allow Mentoring Coordinators to have a pool of mentors for their countries.
This means:
You’ll probably get the email too, even though you’re already a mentor  you don’t need to apply. If you’re here, in this forum, you should already be listed as a mentor.
It’s your chance to help us recruit more mentors! Feel free to forward the email to other L4-L6 who you think would make good mentors!
Sorry, but I’m not sure if I understand this post correctly. Only weeks after applying to be a mentor by filling out a form and being formally accepted as a mentor, I need to fill out another form to apply for that same thing again?
Is that how I should read your post? If it is, will we be performing this form-filling ritual every three to four weeks from now on? And do you think this will greatly motivate people to participate in this form-filling ritual?
I, for one, like to help new editors find their way around the map and our editing practices. I do not particularly enjoy filling out forms. Especially if filling out these forms leads to nothing but filling out yet more forms because the old forms somehow turned out to be useless. So now I’m hoping my interpretation of your post is dead wrong. :?
Nope: “no need to apply if your country’s mentoring coordinator already assigns mentees to you” - you’re already a mentor, no need to fill it in again.
Thanks for clearing that up. You seem to assume that our coordinators have already assigned mentees to everyone on the list. As they haven’t, your post needed further clarification. It would have been less confusing, had this passage of your post read “no need to apply again if you’ve already been added to the list your country’s mentoring coordinator uses to assign mentees”.
You’re welcome, glad I could help by owning up to not understanding something. It goes to show: Asking a question rarely is stupid. Rather, not admitting that you’re lost and asking for an explanation flattens the learning curve significantly.
This email should be sent to all L4-L6 editors in the coming days.
Reminding you that if you’re already signed up as a Mentor, you can simply ignore the email.
If you know others who can make good Editor mentors, this is a great opportunity to encourage them to sign up
