Help Needed Newbury L5 - Beta Waze users

We have a strange situation on a roundabout in Newbury.

If approaching this R/Bout from the south left turns are now restricted.

You can not travel from the A339 (s) on to Bear Ln, however you can from every other route within this R/Bout.

Can someone please look at this, Permalink

Hi. I’m the waze user that originally posted the map error due to a change in the road layout.

Newbury A339, Cheap Street and Bear Lane Improvements
The changes also relate to the implementation of a new traffic light controlled junction and restricted access to other nearby roads.
Please review the detailed plans at the below link:
https://info.westberks.gov.uk/a339

In essence, from now, no traffic from any direction is allowed to enter Bear Lane from the A339 instead traffic wishing to go into the town centre is to use a new traffic light controlled T junction into Cheap St to the south of the existing roundabout, known locally at the Sainsburys roundabout. Traffic will still be able to enter the roundabout from the direction of Bear Lane.
Perhaps, in the Waze map editor a solution might be for the section of road from the Bear Lane Wharf ST junction to the Sainsbury’s roundabout to be defined as One way. Which, in reality, it has now become?

Southbound A339 traffic are no longer permited to turn right towards Bear Lane on the Sainsbury’s roundabout. Note traffic coming out of Kings Rd can traverse the roundabout not enter bear lane but are taken onto the A339 Northbound.

Traffic. except cycles are no longer permitted to enter Cheap St from Market St although it remains two way along its entire length.

I am happy to help by uploaded site photo’s etc

Hope this helps
Richard

Sounds (and looks) like this should no longer be mapped as a roundabout. Instead being mapped as a gyratory we will have better control over turns and instructions.

Hi Chris & Richard

Richard, many thanks for your input here it is useful.

This change was done yesterday, as was the removal of the r/bout at the junction of Bear Ln / Wharf Street.

Chris, Can I ask that you implement the changes from a R/Bout to a Gyratory?

So I’ve given it a go, I’ve tried to make the instructions as sensible as possible, I’ll check again once we get a tile update. My only thought is that Mill Lane might be better coming straight off the A339 (S) rather than a left turn off Kings Road. Your thoughts in general are welcome

I’ve also added a 1-way closure to Bear Lane, which WME has accepted but doesn’t seem to be showing in on LiveMap or in the App. You may get more URs :frowning:

This is now live so we’ll see if it gets any feedback

Hello

Sorry for delay. I just wanted to let you know that following the map update, last Thursday I drove some test routes through the new, somewhat complicated, road layout in Newbury.

Waze routing dealt perfectly with each of the test routes. Including the curve ball of heading south on Market St to the railway station Waze routed me the correctly the long way around via St Bartholomew St. Thus confirming it is aware that Cheap St is a no entry from Market St. even though its a two way road.

I have some screenshots but don’t see an obvious way to upload them into this post.

By the way. I run a local FB group with 1200 members. They are very impressed with the speed that Waze updated. Even our local radio station posted to the group saying that they use as special ‘Radio’ version of the App.

Thanks again to everyone involved and keep up the good work.
