I would like to request a way to be able to report car accidents, that are not on your route. If I hear of an accident across town I would like to be able to report it, but I can’t. The way it is set up is you have to be their in order to report it.
Put put a report option in the long press menu.
This is disabled on purpose to reduce the ability for someone to sit at home and get points by reporting accidents all over town, for example. At least when the reports only can show up at the current location, we can tell easily which user needs to be blacklisted.
Also keep in mind that by the time an accident happens, and word gets out, and the radio/TV station hears about it, and they write the copy to announce it, and the traffic segment airs, it is quite possible that the accident is already gone or will soon be gone.
We only want to capture events that are impacting traffic. So if there was an accident but now it is cleared to the shoulder and traffic is going by at 70mph with no problem, the traffic report would be close to meaningless.
Yea. That’s understandable. But what if its a rescue member that knows about these accidents early.
But what if it is a wise guy just having fun? Or an angry boyfriend trying to mess up the girlfriend’s commute? Or a student trying to mess with a teacher? Or any of a million ways someone could abuse the system.
And then consider the ability for someone to do the long press in the correct location and not accidentally flag the wrong road.
I’m not saying your idea is bad. I am just playing devil’s advocate. The strength of Waze’s info is that it is all collected first hand (except for Total Traffic Network/Beat the Traffic info areas). The ability to report second hand has to be restricted to trusted sources I think.
Maybe the OP can get contact Waze and see if they can provide some type of method to input this information from validated, trusted sources?
