Hi everyone.
I read in this UR: https://www.waze.com/en-US/editor/?env=usa&lon=-72.91006&lat=41.63277&s=356514263&zoom=5&mapUpdateRequest=7512058
the claim that house humbers have been deprecated by waze, and that we should now use residential places. Is this true???
I have not heard anything official regarding using RPP vs HN.
No, HN are not deprecated. Continue to use them as you have been.
RPP offer some definite advantages in certain situations, and should certainly be used for those instances. Also, they offer a little more flexibility, so you might choose to use them for new numbering, where HNs do not already exist.
Ok, but aren’t RPPs private? Only their creator can search for and find them.
No. They are searchable like a normal HN.
No. They are searchable like a normal HN.
Are you sure? I was under the impression residential places were private. In fact I just did a couple of tests searching for residential places in the livemap, and it only found the ones already in google maps, which were wrong.
Here’s a RPP in my area. 1274 Carmel Ct in Walnut Creek, CA, USA. This is a RPP that I have not touched at all. It has a photo attached to it. From the history, it was entered by Fireboomerang(1) and approved by TrafficGuy01(3).
When I do a search for the location, this is the search results that pops up on my phone:

When I select the top item, this is what is shown next. Notice there is a photo in the left side in the middle of the page. This is the photo from the RPP.

Now, when I specifically select the location from the Google tab:

You can see that the results does not contain a photo. The names are also slightly different. Google spells out “Court”.

From this experiment, it is clear that I can search for RPPs that are not created by me.
Ok. I tried what you did and it works exactly like you said. The app does indeed search for residential places not created by me. The thing is, I was using the livemap, and oddly, it does NOT work like the app. In livemap when I search for a residential place it takes me to the google result.
For example: Let’s search for Calle Viriato Fiallo 16
This is the result using the app. I know it’s from waze because of the picture:

This is what I get using the livemap. Notice it’s NOT the same spot.

…and this is what google maps brings:

You can see the livemap is not showing Waze’s RPP, but google maps’ result.
It is a known fact that Livemap search results do not always correspond to those in the app. Don’t ask me why; but that’s the way it is.
It is because LM only uses Google results, does not use any Waze Places
@RafaCintron, when I find those errors in Google Maps, I also submit an edit request on Google Maps to move the marker to the correct location.
:o
Yes, i do that too.
Got this message today in GLR:
Irad reports address-based routing search preference changed in production.
New search order (stops at first one found);
- RPP
- Waze HN
- Google HN
No longer any weird “Waze HN used as long as google house number exists and is ‘close enough’ to google HN”
I appreciate the update.
When you say “Waze HN”, can I assume it is a Nudged Waze HN. Or does it include both Nudged and Unnudged HNs?
To me that sounds like both.
