Homes Submitted as New Places

Having recently ranked up to Level 2, I’ve begun to notice new place requests that people have made for their home addresses with pictures. In most of these cases, those addresses already exist on the map as house numbers on their respective streets. What’s the policy for accepting such new place requests when they are for private residences? I’m assuming it is to reject them, but I don’t want to go around clearing things out without checking first.

that’s a great question that I had come to myself recently. the wazeo guidance is here:

https://wazeopedia.waze.com/wiki/USA/Places#What_is_the_Residential_setting.3F_Private_and_public_places

After I read that I interpret it as, if you can solve an address problem with a HN, do so instead of an RPP. But if wazers want to add their home to the waze map, the wazeo article above seems to encourage it.

So, that’s what I do. I only use RPPs when routing will fail otherwise. But I’ve never disapproved a wazer’s request to add their home to the map simply because there was ‘good enough’ routing using a HN.

Does that make sense?

Yes, that’s exactly the kind of answer I was looking for. Much appreciated!

Great question, great answer: this is something I come across quite often. A good number of new places that appear in the feed seem to be personal residences!
