How to get in contact with area manager?

There doesn’t seem to be any way to lookup or contact other users through Waze. It seems weird that a web 2.0 app like this doesn’t have user interactions.

In Cartouche you can activate the “Area Manager” Layer in “Layer Panel”. Then you can see who is the area manager around you on the map. You can send him a PM via Forum. Thats all.

Best regards
Erik

I think this is one of the biggest flaws in the whole system - there are many area managers who aren’t ‘forum people’, and so remain uncontactable.

I too am not sure about the ‘Area manager’ idea. I’m a new user and love the idea of Waze, but the roads in my area are a complete mess with many tiny bits of road all over the place due to GPS errors, junctions and roundabouts not connected, etc. I can edit the roads I’ve driven on but when it comes to deleting the little bits of garbage, I find they’re left to the area manager to approve. He/she hasn’t deleted them yet. I don’t know how active the manager in my area is, and like others, I can’t see any way to contact him/her.

Maybe rather than giving area manager status to any Tom, Dick or Harry who asks for it (which is how I currently perceive it), they should be able to demonstrate some commitment to the project, there should be an appropriate easy method to contact them, and if they lose interest in the project and are idle for a set amount of time, their area manager privileges should be revoked. Just a thought.

I totally agree. There should be a link to the area manager’s email, or PM at the very least.

I also think there should be some minimum requirements to become a manager - 20,000 editing points and 30 forum posts, for example.

Manager status should also be revoked after 30 continuous days of inactivity.

Agreed. I know in some places waze is really just starting and needs all the new area managers they can get, but to have deleted bits of road sitting there in limbo is not the result we want!

If you don’t get hold of the Area Manager, why don’t you apply to be one yourself. Then problem is solved.

To become an area manager you must have a valid email registered with your waze account… which means you have a forum account and you will get an email once someone sends you a PM.
I think it’s the best way to keep in touch with an area manager, where the name you see on his area is also his forum name. If they are not responsive and not active - you can let us know and we will try to contact them and see why.
As gasolgrill mentione, you have the option to apply to become an area manager as well.

And yes - we do monitor the activity of area managers and remove the permissions of those that have been inactive for a while.

Does this mean that even though there is already a manager in my area I can become one too? Two people can manage one area? If so - like gasolgrill said, problem is solved.

Yes you can, sometimes it can even be good to be more then one… in a crowded waze area a single area manager might have problems keeping up with problems etc.
Go ahead and become one you to, just mail a permalink to alpha@waze.com saying you want to become a AM and they are usually kind enough to fix it asap

OK, thanks. I think I’ll do that. :sunglasses:
