How to Give Editors Notes in a Hurry

I know that Waze has the notes system in their priority list somewhere and the railroad method is now defunct with railroads showing up in the client app, so I have a suggestion for a quick and dirty way to give a note system to editors until a new one is in place.

Duplicate the code for Area Places and put them on their own Notes layer that is on by default. Of course this layer shouldn’t be displayed in the client app. Some slight modifications would be needed to remove the Name, Point, and Categories section and to make the Description box a little bigger, but that’s the gist of it.

This will allow editors to create a note that spans an area and would be lockable at different levels for ones that AM’s / CM’s / Senior Editors fell need to be long term.

Thoughts?

I usually only leave notes for areas under construction but when I am in an area where a note might be needed I usually create a “Point” (Place) aka landmark then choose the category as “other” and then add my comment in the description, I’ll usually make the name “PM me b4 making changes”

Another workaround is to drop a UR from the LiveMap via “report a problem”. As with using a Place, it assumes that editors will have a certain layer turned on though. One nice benefit is that it allows an easy conversation history between multiple editors if needed, and another is that it’s noticeable from any zoom level.
