Hi everyone. I’m new to Waze. I’ve been using the app for a few days and would like to be able to use the editor. I’ve watched the videos and understand about levels and the areas I can edit bein the areas near to where I have driven. Sh why can I not edit any roads? I can’t even edit those that are locked to level 1 (which is the level I am). I find I can create new areas such as parks, but they don’t seem to go live. Also on the dashboard my number of edits shows as 0 even though I’ve tried to do things and successfully saved things.
So can someone explain please what is going on? Is the lock out from editing level 1 roads time based? Also how do I step up the levels if I can’t even get one edit registered to me?
Welcome to Waze editing, stick with it and it’ll all be worthwhile!!
What is the exact problem you experience when you try and add roads in areas you’ve driven in? An idea of the error or fault you hit would be useful to help us troubleshoot for you, as I’m aware that many other level 1 editors are well underway with editing since the embargo was lifted a couple of weeks ago.
Regarding the “how to you step up levels” side of things, this is literally just a case of getting a number of edits in, increasing your confidence and experience on the more minor road network, and once you reach a magic number, you will automatically progress to level 2. There’s a useful guide on map editing levels over at the Wazeo here, although note that this is a USA specific reference and so there might be some slight variations with the UK policy (although it’s a good starting guide to give you an idea).
Also, as you’re new and getting into editing, have you spotted we have a mentoring programme? Another suggestion is to get in touch directly with one of the area managers in the area you are trying to edit in to get tips and advice from them.
EDIT: to answer your point about your edit count being stuck on zero, don’t worry about this, the edit count on your profile only updates every 24 hours or so, and sometimes gets stuck. This doesn’t mean your edits aren’t counted though, and once the delay works itself out of the system this count will progress!
I will also add, any places you create or update will show as ‘pending Approval’, once you’ve had several approved this restriction will disappear.
Post a link to the area your editing in and i’ll approve those places for you
You should aware that there has recently been a change to Level 1 editor permissions / restrictions and Waze have not made public what they actually are;
Thanks to everyone who has helped so far. Just a bit more information… When I log into the map editor only ‘Comment’ and ‘Places’ along the top are available to click on, not ‘Road’ or ‘Area’. If i do try to click those or actually try to edit a road on the map I get a pop up saying ‘You can’t edit roads yet.’ However although it implies I will be able to edit them, it doesn’t give any idea of when or what conditions have to be reached first.
When I’ve looked up road editing all the things I’ve found (including the video that plays in the Waze app) says it should be possible to edit roads straight away at level 1. This is definitely not working for me. So is that video wrong?
I think there could do with a bit more transparancy about levels and what can and can’t be done.
For anyone who wants to look at my work so far, I’ve been adding what I can (mainly parks and allotment gardens) around Bolsover, Derbyshire, UK.
Area editing is restricted to L6, so hardly any of us will see that one enabled :mrgreen:
For the segment editing problem, is the message being shown at the top of the segment edit panel on the left of the map view, and does it actually say “You can’t edit the map yet”? If it’s actually as described - a popup which specifically mentions roads in its error message - please can you capture a screengrab of it so we can see the exact wording and also where it’s appearing within the WME window.
