L4 -> L3 George Storrar Dr, Pta

request downlock level 4 to level 3. Turn restriction on Florance Ribeiro Ave onto George Storrar Dr. There is a MP as reference.

Done, don’t know why Primary road was locked at Level 4.

That is what I was referring to a little while ago. The city gets locked up.

I can think of a couple of reasons, and I think I mentioned the first one to you already, but it’s worth repeating for other editors who may see this.

In the past waze would lock a segment according to the rank of the last editor to edit it. So a segment at Level 2 that was edited by a Level 3 editor would become locked at Level 3 - and there was no way to downlock in those days. What’s worse, is that when the editor became a Level 4, so did all the segments that he had last edited! When the system was changed, no locks were changed so we still occasionally see some remnants of the issue.

Another reason is that some roads are deliberately locked because of newbies who keep making bad changes! Kuhlkatz had a problem in Sandton with roads being incorrectly split, and was forced to lock some Primary roads.

At the rate you’re going, Gerald, it shouldn’t be too long before you’re a Level 4! :slight_smile:

I understand the old automatic locking regime. what I don’t understand is, why everywhere I edit a road, it gets locked up. Pretty much like clockwork. I know I made some grave mistakes in the beginning, but by now I’ve learned how to recycle existing segments, in order to preserve road data. Like with the above requested junction. I did the edit, and that one turn restriction slipped through. And without verify if work is done correctly, just blindly gets locked up… It’s rather frustrating, but I bear with it… I often visit old edits of mine, to make sure I have everything correct…

I understand when an editor mess the whole system up, it’s necessary to lockup things. Insertion of a new segment is hardly messing up the system, provided turn restrictions / permissions are set correctly…

Really? I became level 3 in less than a month, but to my understanding, level 4 requirement is 100k edits. I’m on a mere 17k at the moment.

That’s strange, I don’t think any of the editors I know would just lock up without trying to contact you. The editor who locked a segment will be shown as “updated by” when you select a segment, so you should be able to see who it is. We would rather help an editor by correcting, than simply locking.

Wow, I didn’t realise that it’s such a big jump for 3 to 4, but I think I saw something about waze increasing the requirements.

I know Waze shows who edited last. I’m hardly finished with a project, then this one L4 Ed lockup the entire road I worked on. I don’t really know how to handle it, so I try to bear with it. Quite often, when requesting a downlock, it is agreed that I should notify on completion of the project, to lockup again. Those cases are excluded from my lockup mourning, hehe.

If I recall I changed the lock on these segments awhile back from two to four. The road type was incorrect with multiple turn restrictions having been changed incorrectly. Granted I should have contacted the editor in question - must have slipped my mind. Sorry about that. :oops:

Might be worth sending them a PM. I for one only lock up roads as per our normal convention or if a road is of importance and has been changed in a odd manner.

Normal convention? Aren’t you then you supposed to PM me first, instead of just locking up?
