I’ve submitted edits in my area, mostly because I use Waze regularly and want to make it better. Unfortunately, it seems that there isn’t a whole lot going on in terms of approval for the edits. As a user and contributor, it makes me feel as if I’m wasting my time.
Any way to fix this problem? I’m more than happy to volunteer my time into making Waze better - but with the lack of approvals, getting to Level 2 as an Editor seems like a goal I’m not going to reach.
What area of Ontario are you from? In any area, the proportion of active editors to app users is very small even large cities. Combine that with the fact that there are so many new Place requests to validate and approve with the new functionality, and that not all editors have a good range (you start out with a one mile radius from your drives). Your area may not have very good coverage in terms of approvers right now.
Hey - I’m in the Greater Toronto Area. Not sure how active the Level 2 + editors are, but the Mississauga edits I’ve placed in have been sitting for a while now.
Is there any way to get upgraded manually? Or apply as a manager?
You might try sending a Private Message in the forum to hmarian, manoeuvre, or EECGeek as they are fairly active in the province. Any way you look at it though, there is a huge number of requests to filter through, and we’re all volunteers.
In terms of managing an area, I would suggest reading a bit through the wiki and starting to edit locally to build up your experience. Here is more detail about managing an area though: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=93406
Hi Bitcorn,
What do you mean your edits have been placed and have been sitting a while? If you’ve made an edit, it should be available in the client usually within a day or two. If a particular road is locked, you can post to the Canada Unlock forum and usually get a response within a day.
Thanks. I’m still running the old version so don’t know much about the new Places feature yet.
I found some of his updates, but they’re right on the edge of my approval area, so I can’t do anything about them.
They’re mostly in the Mavis & Dundas and East on Dundas
I see a lot of parking lots such as This one
I’m fairly new too, so correct me if I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t add all of those parking lots since they’re not public parking, some are private property like schools.
Hey bitcorn,
I went through and approved all the edits you did, however some of them need a little more attention.
If your review this Wiki page on places, you will see that for the most part, parking lots do not need to be mapped. I can really cause quite a clutter on the screen of the app.
As for some of the others, they were not all last touched by you; but could use some work that you can do to them for some experience/points.
Loblaw Superstore - needs the information pulled out of the description and input in the correct areas, it was updated last before the newer places was out and didn’t have spots for some of the info. It also needs to be a point place.
LCBO - Needs all of the same stuff as the Loblaw. Including turning it into a point.
The Home Depot - Should be a point place.
Here is another spot that has a over mapped parking lot. You can remove the lanes and then remove the extra nodes.
(Actually caught some work by manoeuvre here that surprised me)
If you need any assistance feel free to PM me. I can usually answer any questions fairly quickly with tapatalk on my phone. manoeuvre is usually on in the evenings and is great for help as well.

I have removed the parking lot places and the excessive parking lot road segments.
I’m having trouble editing some these ‘Place Updates’, I periodically get ‘Save Errors’ and it’s quite frustrating.
Step-by-step we’ll get through these, it’s our biggest step to get away from the Google’s Places Database. Maybe some of the restricted places like Airports, Hospitals, Train/Bus Stations can now have their location moved.

Yea, there have been a lot of places causing save errors, sometimes when you come back to them they will work. Sometimes not.
Hopefully all the airports are already set up right in Waze. The client now will show and use Waze places in the “auto-complete” bar.
The place update thing is a case-in-point of “save early, save often” being a good mantra.
Also, I’ve found that often the updates are saved (despite the error) – you just need to undo all the changes then hit the “refresh map” button.
The screen shot above by manoeuvre was a place I added and can’t be updated. Could it be because it has Toronto Airport in its name and it gets blocked?
No, but have you made sure it’s not on top of another one? Sometimes multiple attempts to save result in multiple copies of the place… and Waze gets ornery at those things.
It was just the geometry update that wouldn’t save, I just went back now and rejected my own update and it saved properly… definitely strange.
I do get that same error of not being able to save, but undoing and refreshing the map fixes it
Yes, the Places stuff is very buggy right now.
