Landmarks

Hi!

Happy New Year to all of you…

I’m asking myself a question about the landmarks: as they don’t really change through time, is it not better to lock them in a higher level than 1 ?? :?:
I didn’t found any clue about this in the forum…
It’s just a suggestion… I compare them to the railroad per example.

Have a nice day.
Laurent.

Why would you want to lock it?
I’m thinking about the ‘rule’ to have as much open / not locked as possible, as long as there is no ‘real’ danger to the routing…

You’re right they don’t change, or at least not as much, but, why would it be needed to lock them?

I don’t know… why the railroad exists and it’s locked? we don’t drive on it…
:? It was a remark… because at my point of view, the landmarks are usefull when you drive. It’s part of the app’s landscape. It allows you to be sure that you are at the right place, or per exemple, that you turn the next road after a forest or a river.
If a “rebellious” user want to delete all the gas stations, nothing can prevent this (but ok, it’s the same remark for the common streets  )

It was just something that I’ve asked myself because there was nothing about that in the wiki… not a big deal!

the railroads are locked, because they don’t have the type ‘railroad’ and shouldn’t be connected to any kind of road infrastructure… To prevent this, they have a certain configuration, that starting editors don’t know of… so that is why they are locked like that…

Landmarks like forest, river, … are indeed very usefull, like you say, just like the common streets…
If there would be some kind of abuse, we could start locking them up, like they did in Italy, but hey, let’s keep the trust in the community as much as possible…

Steven,

Is it correct to draw a landmark like this:
https://www.waze.com/editor/?lon=3.85659&lat=50.59645&zoom=4&layers=TBFTFFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT&env=row&landmarks=3214487
?

I mean, passing through other landmarks or street? Which landmarks is on the top and which one on the bottom?

This question because I saw landmarks drawn one on another one… And I was wondering how it will be showed in the app.

Thanks

After the north sea and ijsselmeer got removed a few times I’ve started locking such landmarks

Passing over streets should not be a problem.
I don’t know if there is a fixed hierarchy of types of landmarks, but wouldn’t suggest to let them cross over like this… So i adjusted it a little bit…

i’ve notice that “sea/lake/river” are always on top of “forest/ grove” .
So you can draw a big forest and add different lake inside the forest

And there is no problem to pass over a street with any types of landmarks.
For exemple you can draw a forest over a street if the forest is on both side of the street

Maybe good to add this to the wiki?!
Are you up to it?!

done :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m also trying to translate, correct, and complete the French wiki based on the Flemish version witch is more complete

Just i’m not a specialist of wiki edition , in this page

https://www.waze.com/wiki/Benelux_Landmarks

i’ve translated the last form Les autres types - Overige types but theres is 4 {{{{ that i don’t know how to delete them

Edit 2 : done i’ve edit, translate if needed and complet all part of french wiki .
You can delete all “Google Translate” small text mention i don’t know how to do it.

I’m going to sleep , and tomorrow i check if everything is 100% ok

Great!
What a way to update the wiki!
I removed the {{ and }} , you can do it in the text, just like removing other parts…

the google translate template can be removed by deleteing {{GT at the beginning and }} at the end
On the first page, you probably just deleted GT, why the {{ and }} were popping up

There are quite more pages to be translated, if you’re interested and willing…
Take this one, for example…
