At-grade connectors are discouraged in waze, because they add an additional layer of complexity. With waze we have to stress function over form. It’s not important that the roads are represented exactly like the satellite image.

There is specific/special criteria for allowing AGCs.
We do allow them at some junctions, example here: drivers have to turn +150m away from the intersection. ie Hwy 27 & Hwy 7: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-79.62284&lat=43.77256&layers=5&zoom=8&segments=71654823

You can see we have a 90° angle for E/B Hwy 7 at the AGC. This means drivers will receive a turn right instruction here. In some case

Depending on the road types and the departure angles, waze gives different instructions: keep right, stay right, exit right, turn right, no instruction.
I don’t believe this intersection needs an AGC.
Lets just say we entertained AGCs, they would not be set at where the dotted lines begin; they would be set close to where the solid line begins.

There are also consequences with respect to AGCs, where depending on the road type, naming and departure angles waze will provide “exit right, stay/keep right” instructions.

Lets say we placed the junction node here. As soon as they pass it, waze will give them the next instruction. Lets say they’re travelling south on Prince of Wales Dr.
Approaching that junction node if the departure angle is <45° waze will say “stay left to Hunt Club Rd”
Immediately after passing that junction node where the AGC and Riverside Dr meet. Waze will announce “turn left at Prince of Wales Dr”. Drivers have not yet completed the “right turn”, and the intersection is still ~200m away… will all of the sudden receive a visual/voice turn left instruction.
I have to stress simplicity here.

I understand the reason for not adding an “AGC” here based on your comments, but I’m still confused about other areas where I saw them (which lead me to want to add one there), for instance here: https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-75.68557&lat=45.36056&layers=517&zoom=5
Should some of the existing AGC be therefore removed, or left as they are?
I guess this kind of editing is too advanced for a beginner editor like me to fully understand. The Ottawa are seems to be well covered by advanced editors already ![]()

Unfortunately, the entire map is not always compliant with the published guidelines. The guidelines do change. So you may see incorrect examples.
Always refer to the published guidelines, if you see something out of place; feel free to ask questions.
I don’t believe the northbound Riverside to eastbound Walkley Rd AGC is necessary. I see some merit to the westbound Walkley to northbound Riverside Dr.
However, I would recommend the junction node be moved further east to the solid line
Similarly, this junction node can also be moved further back to this point.
I’m not the area manager here; my suggestions are based on the satellite image which can be old. I don’t have eyes-on the ground like the area managers here.
If you’d like to make recommendations to remove AGCs here, please forward them to us.
