I drove along this segment of I-81 this past weekend. Although this is not my report, the driver makes a good point. At several places those continuing on 81 are directed by signage to keep left - it would be good if Waze did the same.

You are not “keeping left” you are staying straight and there are currently no GPS apps or GPS companies that tell you “stay straight” at every exit that you come across off of the interstate. If they did, no one would buy them because that instruction would become annoying. The only way to get a “keep left” is to make I-81 is to make the entire interstate a ramp, then Waze will never route people down the interstate, instead taking back roads to get to your destination.
We’ve gone back and forth on this one. When you drive it, it is somewhat confusing as to which is the continuation since the exit is two lanes straight. More than one person has gone straight and needed to do a lot of backtracking to get to I-81. It’s about 20 km. I’d go with the wisdom of the BGS. If it indicates the need to keep left for I-81, then I’m inclined to put a wayfinder in there.
I drive that section of 81/78 very often. I think this is a perfect example of a non-obvious continuation of a road and therefore a perfect place to use wayfinders. I probably had it set up with old-style ramp/ramp wayfinders in the past, but a freeway/freeway wayfinder probably should be put in. Lots of confused drivers there almost every time I drive through.
I do see what appears to be a wayfinder at that exit, though the one segment is only 2m long. Last edited by a level 6 on June 19th.
Sonofagun, I didn’t notice that. It needs to be a ramp though to trigger the left messages. I changed it.
That is why I tend to make wayfinders 10m long… really small are hard to find
