This segment should be a minor highway; the road (North County Blvd) has two lanes going both directions, as well as a middle suicide / turn lane throughout, and increased speeds (45 MPH). It is one of the quickest ways thru the area, so let’s let our fellow Wazer’s know it :).

And this section as well…

No it shouldn’t. Joseph I’ve categorized all the roads in that area a long time ago (Hint, look at where I live), please cease altering what doesn’t need to be changed.

I know where you live, thank you. However, I also drive that route daily. I’d like to know why SR-74 for instance is a minor highway, yet North County Blvd does not qualify…please enlighten me. Is it simply the fact that SR-74 is a designated SR? I’m just wondering…here’s how the two compare:

N. County Blvd:
45 MPH Speed Limit
5-lane highway (2 lanes each direction, one dedicated middle turn lane)

SR-74
30-45 MPH Speed Limit
2-3 lane highway (sometimes with a middle dedicated turn lane)

No disrespect, but North County Blvd was recently (just a year or tow ago) redone /revamped to be a major thoroughfare in the area, and I believe the Minor Highway distinction is merited.

Another local example would be Geneva Road, which is as wide as North County Blvd (5 lanes) in some areas, but goes down to 2 lanes in others as well, yet it is also considered a Minor Highway. Just wondering why North County Blvd doesn’t qualify as well.

You hit it on the head, SR vs non SR. Road construction does not automatically determine road type. There are minor highways that are just two lane roads (most of rural Utah) and there are ones that expand to just shy of divided Hwy. Once they go divided they usually get upgraded to Major depending on how long they remain divided. Geneva is Minor Hwy because it was imported as such. When Geneva Steel was open it was far more significant a road than it is currently, and that was most likely echoed in the import I didn’t downgrade.

As I said the road types were established in this area a while ago, I did review them when the rebuild up near the Temple was finished and primary route is the correct road type.

Not to step on anyone’s toes but the wiki lays out road types.

Unless it is designated as a state / US hwy it should be designated as primary no matter how wide or well traveled it is. Same goes for state highway, even if it is a 2 lane road, if it is a state highway it should be marked as such.

That’s what I said. The road in question has been upgraded to far exceed the capacity of a nearby state hwy SR-74, yet should only be classified a primary route as I had it previously and as I have restored it to be.

Alright, thanks again all for the clarification  I’ll make sure to follow those guidelines, and thanks for your input.

I have to wonder if that is something that may need to be revised. IMHO I believe it makes more sense to designate roads by their current use. As daknife said, some State Routes / SR are little more than a (once) paved road (especially here in Utah) that may have once been of some importance, but are hardly utilized now. Meanwhile, we use primary road as a blanket designation ranging from 5 lane roads to a narrow paved road…but that’s another discussion for another time.
