Level 5 update - Toronto, ON - Yonge/Bloor

https://www.waze.com/editor/?env=usa&lon=-79.38681&lat=43.67004&layers=1925&zoom=7&segments=67181117

There have been several URs at this location over the past few days. A reporter now indicates that right turns onto eastbound Bloor have been completely restricted and the other URs seem to corrobarate. No word if the other direction has changed as well.

Please update. Thanks.

This is the information I received from Toronto 311 Representative in mid-September regarding this intersection:

  • NO TURNS (7:30 - 9:30 am and 3:30 - 6:30 pm, Mon to Fri, except holidays)

  • NO TURNS (noon - 2:00 pm, Sat and Sun)

  • NO RIGHT TURN ON RED (all times except the following when NO TURNS are allowed):
    7:30 - 9:30 am Mon - Fri,
    3:30 - 6:30 pm, Mon to Fri
noon - 2:00 pm, Sat and Sun

The turns were adjusted according to this schedule.
Please confirm with the user the exact time he was getting the turn directions from Waze to make sure it is contradicting with the schedule.

If there is an issue we can contact the city to verify if this was changed.

Another possibility was a temporary override, by the city due to event or other particular reason, so important to understand the observation by the users over time and not on a specific incident.

Cheers,
HM.

The reporter has already confirmed that the restriction is all the time and there have been several URs over several days that seem to indicate this.

I can confirm with Toronto 311.
It may take time to get their response though.

Before September the restriction was no left and no right on all directions all day long and we had reports of this not being the case, so I had to ask the city, as the sign is electronic and you can determine the timing from being at the intersection. This triggered the question I sent to Toronto 311 about this.

To be able to pin point to the city the exact incident I will need a specific date and time that the restriction was in place outside of the times I wrote above.
Please provide this to me so I can ask the city and give them an example.

Cheers,
HM.

Reporter indicates that it was Friday at around 11pm.

What direction he was going and what was the turn that Waze asked him to make and was prohibited by the local sign?

HM.

The reporter was traveling north on Yonge and turning right onto Bloor was prohibited by the local sign.

I will send that info to Toronto 311 and see what they have to say.

Please be patient as last time it took them a while to get back to me.

HM.

FYI. The turn was restricted here:

Apologies, I had another UR reporter who stated the sign was no right turn and it appeared exactly like streetview: http://goo.gl/hGscaV

He was also heading n/b on Yonge St and trying a right turn to go e/b on Bloor St. He observed the sign at 9PM on Thu Oct 30, 2014.

By-Law (Pg 179) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwh4gh8y1h52r5n/toronto-code-950-23.pdf

The 311Toronto is consistent with the by-law, but with our previous experience the By-Law isn’t always reflected with real-life signs.

I hear you and will wait for a confirmation from Toronto 311.
From my past experience they are slow to response.

HM.

Interesting that the sign is different in SV if you take a step forward.

look at the image date stamp. There is a 4 years difference between the two images:

I have another UR concerning the Yonge & Bloor turn restriction. They’re also reporting the sign heading north on Yonge St indicates no Left/Right turns on Bloor.

I have requested that he provide the time and day he saw this sign.3rd UR concerning this intersection

edit

UR: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=43.669977&lon=-79.386671&mapUpdateRequest=3904068&env=usa

This UR is also reporting that left/right turns are not allowed at Bloor & Yonge.

Adding another UR to this discussion: https://www.waze.com/editor/?zoom=5&lat=43.669938&lon=-79.386655&mapUpdateRequest=3905933&env=usa

Similar complaint, that the right turn is not allowed.

Please let all the users reporting this know that this is under investigation.

Could we not restrict the turn pending the 311 investigation? There are many URs indicating that the turn is in reality restricted at all times. I had already closed my UR and marked this thread as resolved based on Skidooguy’s original update which has been reversed.

The turn is now restricted, until we hear back from Toronto 311.
I only restricted the right turn from NB Yonge to EB Bloor.

I drove through the intersection today and the TBR is in fact in place now on a fixed sign (no electronic revolving sign).
The right turn TBR is in place on 3 of the 4 directions, as suggested by Toronto 311 and was set on the WME.
The no right turn on the Yonge NB to Bloor EB is at all times, as suggested by the users reporting this.
The settings are set properly with the change we made yesterday and no further edits are required.
I’m curious if Toronto 311 will get back to me with the same findings. I will post their reply once I get it.

Cheers,
HM.
