Hi,
Could a kindly L4 downlock these segments to L3 please.
It’s relating to a change in the layout due to the ongoing upgrade work.
Many thanks.

lowered for you, thanks
Many thanks.
I’ve just made the changes and discovered that this segment is also L4. Sorry to be a PIA, but could you do the honours with that one too please. Many thanks.
Cheers,
Dave
Done.
I saw some other things that I’m not entirely happy with around here:
Hi Ian,
It still appears to be locked at L4(auto). ![]()
The reason for requesting the unlock was for exactly as you suggested, to merge it with the other one. It is a left-over from the contraflow that has recently been lifted.
I thought the plan was to change all sliproads nationwide to the “>” format? Good point regarding leaving unnamed w.r.t. the following segment. This too is locked at L4.
Well spotted with the A2014! I’m guessing whoever named this segment copied it from GM, which is also incorrect. The number appears to be a This is locked at L4 as well.
PIA vs PITA - I was trying to keep in line with the current trend of TLAs, whether they make sense or not!
I was already planning to do the first, and the second definitely makes sense.
Is the 3rd bullet point referring to the 3 segments between the roundabout and the ‘street’ section of Vauxhall Lane, or the actual exit ramp sliproad section? If you are referring to the sliproad, then that could be confusing due to the signage on the northbound A21.
Isn’t “J to A21 (N)” part of the old and outdated naming convention? I assume J should be extended to “Junction”?
I’m not quite sure what you mean by the final bullet point. :?:
[local history] I’m not sure if you are aware, but Vauxhall Lane actually starts at the roundabout with Pembury Rd / Woodgate Way. It was widened and upgraded when the A21 came along. The northbound sliproad towards London is a relatively new addition, having been there for approximately 20 years. Before that was built, it was only two-way until the t-junction where it forks left towards the Cottage Hospital. [/local history]
I can’t make any of those changes anyway as the roads are all locked at L4. ![]()
Dave
I’ve unlocked the original segment I failed to unlock  plus the other segments here.
That was referring to the actual ram segment that leaves the A21. The 3 segments you permalinked, what I referred to as “the loop” should be un-named - that’s the last bullet point.
As far as I am aware (and I will admit I’m not fully up to date on that discussion), the use of “>” format is only needed where directions are otherwise ambiguous. For example:
Hi,
Many thanks.
I’ve removed the superfluous section and extended the sliproads to the junction of Vauxhall Ln / Vauxhall Ln.
From a local knowledge point of view, I’m afraid I’d have to disagree. The 3 segments are the beginning of Vauxhall Lane and it is clearly signed as such. I also believe that you like it when Waze announces an A-road also has a name!
For the time being, I’ve changed the road number from A2014 to A26…
Regarding the ramp name, I’d also have to disagree there too as nowhere on the northbound road signs does it mention “A26 Vauxhall Ln” but it does mention “A26 Tonbridge”. This will cause confusion if the directions don’t match the signs.
As far as I am aware (and I will admit I’m not fully up to date on that discussion), the use of “>” format is only needed where directions are otherwise ambiguous. For example:
- A motorway exit ramp which then splits to go in different directions on the same road. So ou might have “A123>destination A” and “A123>destination B”
I’ll admit that I’m perhaps not 100% up to date on that, but I do recall a thread several months ago, if not longer, regarding changing of the ramp names. It may even have been at last years conference.
Shall we leave the ramp names as-is for now, and raise this topic at the conference in a few weeks?
Meanwhile, I’m happy to trawl through the forums some time over the next few days and see if I can find the thread in question. ![]()
Cheers,
Dave
EDIT: I have just found a photo on my old phone from the conference last year which details the new naming policy. I believe that is you sitting right in front of me!
Fair enough. Nice photo!
