I develop & support software for mainframes. Products currently working on are used by major corporations for DR and swapping DASD without IPLing (rebooting) the mainframes so they can run 24/7.
Downlocked area mH to 3. Those are a holdover of the previous locking standard, revised about 10 months ago.

True story: my father partially telecommuted in the early '70s. No VPNs in those days, we got an synchronous modem line installed.

High level description: copy all data to a duplicate offline volume; after all tracks copied, set I/O intercepts so that any writes to original volume are also wrote to offline volume. Keep doing this until all the volumes in a consistency group are ready and the customer says swap the volumes. Once swapped, the TIOT’s of the running programs are all updated with the new volume address(es) and the original volume taken offline and new volume set online.
