FC Upgrade: Portion from I-787 to Tibbits Ave set to Freeway per USA Road Type, rest of route set to Major Highway
State Hwy Name to NY-XXX standard for Freeway Section, Name to Cohoes Blvd with NY-787 alternate name from Tibbits to end of divided highway at Cohoes Rd
I noticed a lot of stuff going on in the area that could use some TLC. Examples:
Greater Colonie Area - we hate those. If we can get rid of every refernec to it and rpelace with the correct locality name, awesome
Still a lot of “State Hwy” - we went over to SR (short for state route) a long time ago, and then more recently to NY-nn for state highways. The fact that State Hwy still exist indicates that nobody has really paid attention to the area in a while
In Troy, there are a lot of alleys that are mapped roads in county GIS. There are some who will say they should not be mapped as regular roads. I think they can be, and that Waze will notice that they are very slow routes to traverse, turn into, and turn from. This will keep them from being used except when there’s a traffic issue on the parallel main roads.
With a little experience, I think you could be the Area Manager for a nice swath of the county.
I posted a topic about the “Greater *** Area” names in the New York forum, but never got a clear answer. I’ll start changing those over.
I believe I’ve changed all the State Hwy and SR-XXX names that were unlocked in my editable area (though I am still working on those that are alternate names). I’ll keep sending out unlock requests as I get to them. I’ve been updating the few remaining Co Rd and Co Hwy names to CR-XXX as well.
I mapped the named alleys in Troy, but not the unnamed ones in Lansingburgh (north Troy). That part is on the to do list. I have to switch the alleys I created to private too (per NY wiki), as I had them set to PLR (per USA Road Types wiki).
Hint: use validator custom template to find “greater” cities, and names/alts that use deprecated standards.
I read the NY wiki Alley rules as “map as normal road if the municipality acknowledges the alley; if not, map as PLR if it has a name and won’t cause problems; otherwise don’t map”
The name and city seemed to have disappeared of the L4 locks. Could I bother you to unlock it again so I can fix it? Don’t want any missing road names on a major commuter route.
Appear to be really gone. That can happen if you select multiple segments without a common name/city, and then add or delete an alternate name. You’ll have to go back and find the correct naming for those segments and add them back. I unlocked them for you.
Can you think of a reason why the last editor uplocked it to 5 if it is mH?
Do you want to contact him/her to discuss?
Similarly, these MH are locked high, to 5, but that may be due to the previous lock strategy. Let me know what you think should be done with it. If there’s no special reason for 5, it shoudl be downgraded to 4.
Finally, I have not done the ramps in the area, because that would require evaluating each for highest connected segment lock, and I didn’t have the time for it.
OK, not acting on this now, maybe if you happen to catch me one of these evenings we can go through it, update the open cut (that’s what the open top “tunnels” are called), and get NY-7 and friends all fixed up.
