To connect PLR and Private Roads
Lowered to L2, go ahead and connect them.
Keep in mind that if a segment is a private road & dirt/4x4. We should set it as private road.
Waze treats dirt/4x4 roads as regular streets.
I’m also recommending that you please check this thread & post: https://www.waze.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1065537#p1065537
Understood. Thank you.

I’d like to discuss this gate segment, where you’ve applied turn restrictions for the entrance & exit.

I understand why you’ve set it up this way, it seems logical to apply turn restrictions; however, these types of private installations are discussed in great length in the wiki: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/Private_Installations#3._Consider_Resident_.26_Visitors
There’s a lot of things to consider, for me the primary concern is visitors vs. residents. Is this entrance for the general public? If not, is there some evidence the residents use Waze (ie. GPS tracks, URs)
There’s some significance between choosing parking lot and private road here. Of course, if the goal is to discourage drivers from using it as a thorough road, either will suffice. Routing to the actual location, which appears to be a religious centre we may need to use ‘Parking Lot Road’.
We’re getting mixed messages from Waze regarding Private Roads; in a December 2014 East Coast Meetup they told the Champs that Private Roads would not be used for routing; however, that’s not necessarily the case.
I’ve seen cases on Waze where a business had several entrances, and all the roads were PLR except for one entrance segment that was set to Private Rd. Waze avoided this entrance/exit for routing. The only reason it was spotted was because of a UR complaint that Waze never used it.
There isn’t a 100% standard solution for this setup, but I definitely believe it can be improved. Applying turn restrictions at all the gates is not the way to go here. What I would like to see is if you could please read the Private Installation part of the wiki in full.
And re-apply the setup, and let me know in detail your decision and why you picked this setup.
Using the Route Speed Script, there is definitely activity on all your segments since you’ve drawn them; this installation is important for Waze. It also wouldn’t hurt if we could add Waze Places for this area; the larger building structures should have some names/addresses.
I read through the page.
The main gate and main roads I made into streets. All secondary roads are PLRs. The dirt roads I left as private roads to discourage routing.
The secondary gates (for residents) I left one private road section to create a single penalty.

I realized there is one gate that appears to be usually locked with a chain. I added 2 private road sections to it.

It would appear visitors are the primary traffic here. With this setup, can the turn restrictions be removed and routing should work primarily for the main gate?
Thanks, I removed the nodes that were split at the gates and the turn restrictions.
Everything else looks good. Waze won’t route using the private road entrances or exits.
Wonderful! Thank you for your help ![]()
