Level5 Update: British Columbia - Burnaby FC

My Level: 1 2
Reason for request: a few Functional Classification changes in Burnaby.
Pages 64 and 65

Although Burnaby classifies Canada Way as a secondary arterial, it is on the Major Road Network, and in particular the section from Kensington to Kingsway carries an especially high traffic volume. I suggest changing this to Major Highway.

Imperial Street from Boundary to Kingsway may be classified as a primary arterial, but it carries much less traffic than other Burnaby primary arterials, and unlike most Burnaby arterials is not part of the MRN. Differentiating it from nearby Kingsway by setting it to Minor Highway would be beneficial.

Underhill Avenue is classified as a major collector and should be set at Primary Street. Done

I have selected some Local Collectors to go to Primary Street where this will not cause issues (for instance, I did not select Government Road due to its proximity to Winston Street). Please update:
Gamma Avenue Done
Albert Street Done
Pender Street Done
Duthie Avenue and Ridge Drive Done

A2-A4 Burris Street

Lastly, Brighton Avenue is not classified as any type of collector, but it forms part of a major truck route and carries a similar traffic volume to other collectors. I recommend changing it to Primary Street.

I’m going to need some review time for this and New West.

Take your time, please do not feel rushed.

As with Coquitlam, bump this in a couple of weeks.

Bumping to see if this is complete? I know other unlock requests have come through for roads included in this list but I don’t want to close unless we are done with this thread.

Cheers

I forgot about this thread. I ranked up twice since originally posting it and did most of the changes myself, although there are a couple I decided against.
I wouldn’t mind a quick unlock on this segment, and I still think it would benefit us to set Imperial St to mH and remove a couple of unneeded junction nodes, although that will wait until tomorrow because there’s an RTC on it.

Why does that segment require an unlock? I don’t understand why it’s locked to R4 but since Kayo’s locked it I’m reluctant to reduce the lock without his input.

Looking at the minor collectors I thought that PS would be appropriate for this road (unlike some of the others). Burnaby’s transportation plan is rather old (currently a project is underway to update it) but it’s still a guide.

I don’t understand the map you linked but probably becasue I don’t know the city at all. I still don’t see how this road should be upgraded, just from a traffic flow perspective. It terminates at one to to another Local Street and the other to a PR. Would upgrading this help traffice flow rather than have Waze prefer Royal Oak Ave?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to upgrade only that segment, that would be pretty dumb. I meant from Rumble to Kingsway, I just linked the one segment because it’s the only one that’s locked.

As for the map, yes it is weird. Burnaby has a separate map for higher road classes. Indeed, because Burnaby has four types of collectors, a couple of them of them have gone to mH while others have gone to Street because they were inappropriate for anything but local traffic.

This road probably won’t see much through routing due to its surroundings, but I thought it would be fine as an option, it’s built more like the nearby major collectors than local streets.

Ok, you convinced me, lowered haha

Updated, ready for relocking.
Imperial St still needs to be edited to remove unneeded nodes and set to mH (see previous post)
