[EDIT: I have misgivings about the current naming but also about the proposed naming. Let me think about this for a bit.]

Current guidance for the left fork says “to US-50 E / I-80 BUS E / S Lake Tahoe”.

Given the BGS below, I’d like to recommend:

“to US-50 / I-80 BUS / Sacramento / South Lake Tahoe”

Rationale:

  • Omitting the “E” from US-50 and I-80 BUS better matches the BGS and shortens the guidance.
  • Omitting the “E” from I-80 BUS especially reduces confusion with I-80 E, whose BGS does have it!
  • Omitting “Capital City Freeway” shortens guidance without losing much.
  • And of course adding “Sacramento” seems pretty important here!

I’m suggesting spelling out the “South” in “South Lake Tahoe” because the cardinal here is not used as a cardinal, but is rather part of the city name. However I’m not married to that if there are objections.

I sought review on this but nothing so far…in the meantime I’ve gone ahead and made my recommended change to the naming of the left fork. It can always be changed again if misgivings arise.
