I did that on one that had had no comments for 10 days down in Kent, this Sunday morning and boy you should have seen the sh***y reply I got in the UR’s comment box. Seems like the editor in question was having a really bad time and I pushed on the last tip of his iceberg - I’ll give him the curtesy of not naming him and sending him a polite PM instead.

NB lads, a well-meaning editor has been busy in a few areas of London today/yesterday - quite a few turn restrictions around now as they’ve tweaked roads to realign them with the aerials and disconnected/reconnected oh-so-slightly a bit to the south. roundabouts especially.
Kenton/Queensbury/Harrow are some of the affected areas I can see but that’s at the edge of my bailiwick so there could be others further afield.
I’ve sent the editor a welcome message and a link to the wiki and the London aerials thread.
Finally got my first response from a UR reporter to one of my questions… unfortunately it seems like some other editor had already recently fixed the problem (I’ve confirmed the problem did actually exist, because livemap routing results still show the issue noted by the reporter) but not bothered to add a comment to that effect to the UR, or even to just close it off as solved without any comment at all, so a bit of a waste of time all round really :evil: And as it appears to have just been a turn restriction needing to be changed, of course there’s absolutely no evidence available in WME as to who needs a quiet reminder about how to handle URs…
I suppose it’s possible that the incorrect turn restriction was spotted by an editor who didn’t have the UR layer turned on, and so they weren’t aware of the need for further action beyond setting the restriction correctly, clicking save and moving onto the next area. However, the number of times I’ve seen what looks like a hit and run edit, fixing a problem without dealing with the associated UR, makes me less able to believe that all of the editors responsible for these fixes are doing their edits completely oblivious to the UR layer and are just finding these problem areas quite by coincidence.
So please PLEASE can we all remember to a) check the UR layer for any relevant reports when making edits to an area and b) correctly handle any such reports when found. In this case even ignoring the commenting guidelines and just closing it off as solved would have been preferable to leaving it open and apparently unattended to. As the title of this thread indicates, the great metrop is slowly drowning under a seething mass of URs that genuinely need our attention, so having our attention diverted by URs that have been dealt with but left open/uncommented on isn’t particularly helpful.

I’m pretty sure I closed a UR or two without comment before I learned that there was a protocol, I can imagine in London there are lots of new editors ‘having a play’ and that there will be lots of incorrectly handled URs, but that doesn’t excuse any of us who do know what we should do.
In the Wiki? The page url ends in a bracket which doesn’t get added to the link (not sure if it affects all browsers). If you add the closing bracket it takes you to the Wiki page. (Maybe it’s worth renaming the Wiki page so it doesn’t end in a bracket?)
That’s because in this instance, NorfolkMustard posted the link as plain text with no url tags, and phpBB has then, in an effort to be helpful, converted it into a clickable link by itself, but the conversion process hasn’t handled the closing ) properly, and as there isn’t a wiki page for “UR_Guidelines_(United_Kingdom” you get directed to the default blank page for any non-existent wiki entry.
Whilst the auto-link-conversion in phpBB can be useful at times, it’s generally better to wrap links in the url tags so that phpBB is told exactly where the link starts and ends. Do that, and you end up with a link which phpBB doesn’t then mangle - https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/UR_Guidelines_(United_Kingdom).
You can also use the url tags to hide the actual address and just display an arbitrary bit of clickable text in its place…
Just a short note to apologise to the team for not pulling my weight recently. I’ve been very busy at work, and travelling, for the last two weeks, so have done very little UR investigation and clearance. And now it gets worse as I’m off on holiday for three weeks, to a part of the world where, I understand, I won’t have access to fast broadband. I’m taking an iPad and my faithful Galaxy 4S, but they’re not suited to editing, so I’ll be doing even less

London UR’s are out of control again. All hands to the pump!
I’ve got the area from Bromley to Kingston up to the Thames and down to the M25 covered. I’ll try and deal with the City of London and expand further tomorrow.
In hindsight this was to be expected at this time of year - the long school break gives local councils a good excuse to perform all those bits of roadworks (with all the resultant URs) that would see them tarred and feathered by irate motorists if they dared to try doing the work during term time, and the London editing resources are stretched even further than usual by many of us being dragged away from our PCs by the kids wanting to do something fun in their time off…
…or the other half deciding that, having taken a week off to spend relaxing with her and the kids, what I really wanted to do (and simply hadn’t realised it) with my time off was a few days of decorating :lol:
As an added bonus this year, we also had the PRN Update Frenzy, which further diverted our attention away from routine map maintenance work for a week.
Anyway, with the paint brushes put away, PRN updates done, and script updates completed (for now…), I’m also back on the case - West London URs beware, your time on this planet will soon be at an end cue dramatic music and maniacal laughter
We’re still being swamped by URs in London, and now also Place Updates (PUs). HQ have threatened to organise a Map Raid in London, and some Ignite* contractors have also been spotted “helping out”. (*Editors with the ign_ prefix)
Given that the aerials are mis-aligned, and the numerous special “features” London has, I think we’d be nervous about having outside help. So maybe we should all try to devote a little more time to keeping on top of URs, MPs and PUs across Greater London.

(Personally, I find handling PUs to be particularly unrewarding. I can spend 2 minutes checking StreetView and searching online to get the details accurate and up-to-date, for some obscure office or residence hardly anyone goes to. Or I can spend 2 seconds to approve or disapprove and then move on, knowing that it could well be wrong)
Glasgow and to a lesser extent Edinburgh aren’t great either, but that’s another story.
I drove to London not so long ago and so can see a bit of London. I’ve been leaving it well alone knowing about all the fun you guys have down there. I’ll start helping out though- just don’t be afraid to tell me to push off if I’m in anyone’s way!
