Hello, first time poster here. I lost my account that I had for many many years from when I travelled a LOT and had to start over. My username used to be GVADMO. I have the password I used but it just doesn’t work. Trying my username GVADMO and password and it is invalid. Resetting the password using my gmail email address doesn’t work. But signing in with Google does work and it started me over.
Do I have any possibility of getting back into my old account?
I was going to do some map editing to add some lovely speed cameras in Niagara but my level is too low now. I could request access to edit but that means I’m resorting to continuing with this new Google account MROCanada. If I could get my old GVADMO account back I’m sure I am at a high level enough and I’d like credits to go to that one.
Thank in advance.
This is a question for the Canada champs. No doubt one of them will be along shortly.
To help them out, I looked at your old account editing profile, and yes you have a lot of points, but zero edits showing on that account. It is not clear to me why you would have zero edits / no edit history against that account.
Points don’t count for anything as it relates to editing, only edit counts help for that. Therefore, I’m not sure you should worry much about getting your old account re-activated since it won’t get you any further ahead for editing.
As far as adding speed cameras in Niagara, you can still help out by posting either forum requests from the website or Map Update requests from your app. The most helpful things you can provide:
- Missing active camera (one that exists in reality but not yet in Waze). If the camera is truly a new location, or if we haven’t previously documented the location, then we will need to know the exact location of the camera housing (within a few metres, since Waze does a countdown to the camera, and we need to know which side of the road it is installed on). The best way to provide that is with lat/long coordinates in the format used in Waze (e.g. 43.10761, -79.07286). You can get this format easily from WME or from Google Maps (via right mouse click or long-press on touch devices)
- Camera un-installed (one you see in Waze but is now gone in reality). Exact location isn’t that important here, so either a nearby Map Update request or a text description of nearby street address or street and cross-street.
General Information about Speed Cameras in Ontario
-
Speed cameras in Ontario are configured to take photos of the rear plates of offending vehicles (no front plate tickets are issued).
-
99.9% of the time, the camera is installed on the right side of the road relative to the direction being monitored at approximately a 30 degree angle to the road.
-
According to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act ASE regulation, a specific sign must be posted just before the camera location when an active camera is present (and taken down when the camera is removed).
-
If the camera does not have the required sign, it is most likely a different type of device, such as a camera for monitoring traffic flow, or a CCTV camera for crime surveillance (other than speeding)
-
Cameras are required to be certified yearly. Usually, these certificates are posted publicly, and can often help to confirm what dates a camera was installed or removed, and sometimes the direction being monitored is posted as well.
-
Municipalities often post signs in all directions for speed cameras and red light cameras, but in both cases, each camera is configured to monitor one direction only.
-
In the GTA, most municipalities seem to have contracted with the same camera provider, so the equipment looks similar. A majority of the devices are self-contained units a gray box the size of a mailbox for the relocatable cameras, and a trapezoidal housing on a 4m pole for permanent units.
Let me know if you have any questions about speed cams.
Cheers!
