Just wanted to talk to an editor who’s a higher level than me about the speed cams on the M25…
The average speed cams between 23 (South Mimms) and 25 (Enfield) aren’t there any more (though there is one 50 camera just before Jcn 25) but all the other have gone (or are still there but aren’t in operation) as the speed limit has gone back up to 70.
There are a two fixed cameras on gantries, though, now… I’m reporting the cameras not being there and also reporting the new cams being on the route but none of my reports are in the map editor… Could someone who’s a higher editing level who looks after the M25 drop me a line so we can sort the cams out? Apparently it’s dknight212, iainhouse and woodvale who look after the editing around here…

Hi, I’ve been doing a lot of the M25 camera maintenance work and expect to be heading around that stretch again in the next few days, so if none of my fellow AMs or CMs get there first then I’ll tidy things up. Thanks for confirming the status of those cams, last time I went round there they’d only just started removing the restrictions so it wasn’t clear which cams were being removed. Also thanks for highlighting the new gantry cams, I’ll definitely keep an eye out for those!

I was just looking at this but As Twister is going that way soon I’ll leave for now so he can get a feel for what is left.
I’ve checked and none are locked higher than L4 so he has delete permissions for them all. If you do need any higher level ones deleting let me know.

Thanks guys! Should be going from 23-25 again in the next couple of days, so will report them again… Hopefully they all work their way out in the wash! Do let me know if you need me to do anything - more than happy to help!

Another way to do this is remove them all and then drop new ones in the correct places; thats what I did when the 50mph SPECS cams came down along the M62 near Leeds after the roadworks were complete and left a lot of gantry mounted variable speed GATSOs. I took a couple of runs to get it perfectly right though.

Just finished a first pass of the whole M25, removing the remaining SPECS markers from the stretches which are now roadworks-free, and adding the locations of the new HADECS installations. The remaining stretch of roadworks from J25 onwards is still a bit messy - I ended up driving that section rather than being the passenger, so wasn’t able to mark all the changes reliably…
There are still a couple of SPECS up on the M25 but between 23 and 25 but they’re presumably not working now as they’re in isolation. I keep reporting them on the map but they’re still there. Will do another pass tonight and report any/all that are incorrect. Would be great if someone could have a look at my reports later and make the relevant changes…

Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way 
as no one gets to see removal reports entered in your Sat Nav. Lets assume the camera was last edited by a Level 5 editor and a “Camera not there” report is entered by a Lev 2 user, then nothing will happen, however if lots of Lev 2 users report the camera isn’t there then Waze will automatically assume that they must be correct and will remove the camera (or rather mark it as unapproved).
Have a look in the Wiki for a better explanation.
If you really want the camera removed I would post a link to it here and one of the area managers will pick it up.

Ah okay - sounds like the editing levels are good in principle, but not conducive of map perfection! Will report cams on here that need removing instead

Not quite correct… Each “not there” vote causes the camera object to be updated, which bumps the date of the most recent update accordingly. If you then know when the camera was last edited within WME, you can tell when it’s receiving a downvote.
Since a not there vote only updates the edit timestamp but not the editor ID associated with the change, when you view the camera in WME it’ll be listed as having been most recently edited by whoever last edited it in WME, but on the date when the not there vote was received. If this happens to be one of the cameras you’ve edited yourself, and if the not there vote was received some time after your last edit to the camera, then chances are good you’ll realise someone else has “edited” the camera in the meantime by downvoting it.
On any given day, there are a significant number of cameras around the M25 showing up as having been edited by me within the last day or two, even though I haven’t touched them in months - these are the ones that people are (wrongly…) marking as not there. Eventually some of them get downvoted enough to revert to unapproved, at which point I get a camera watchlist alert during my next editing session, they get set back to approved (about the only time now where the timestamp does actually refer to an edit made by me), and the whole cycle restarts.
Is there any likelihood of being able to disable camera alerts (and someone stopped on the hard shoulder alerts, and all the other irritants) anytime soon? Then perhaps people who don’t want them won’t be tempted press ‘not there’ to dismiss the alert as that bit is much easier to aim for when you’re driving than is the cancel button.
I thought you could do that already. I’m not running the latest version on my iPhone but under Settings / Display / Show on Map/ I have the opportunity to show or not 10 categories.
The irritants I have turned off are Wazers, Map Chats and Road Goodies

I, also, am not running the latest client version - because Waze haven’t released a version since 3.7 which hasn’t had massive complaints about bugs or unwanted features that cannot be disabled. I don’t have any crappy “sharing” buttons on my screen and Waze never asks me to submit a place photo. :lol:
Anyway, you should be able to disable speed camera alerts - it’s one of the options in the menu Andypot2 mentioned above and I’m sure we would have heard an outcry if it had gone from the latest version.
As for “stopped on shoulder” alerts - be grateful you didn’t ask this in a new post on the general forums. An experience forum user (Hi Alan!) would probably have dropped a metaphorical ton of bricks on your head! :lol: You can disable all alerts, but the forums are full of posts from people wishing they could disable this specific one. Personally, I don’t mind them. On a long, boring drive, they help keep me awake. But then the times when I had a daily drive round the M25 are long gone. If I still had to do that, I might feel differently.
Many versions ago, alerts had a pair of large buttons to either confirm or say “not there”. There was plenty of outcry when it was changed to the current small “X” button - all of which was blithely ignored by Waze. :evil:
I have not checked in the latest version (I will next week) but previously disabling speed cameras merely removes them from display on the map and still gives you the pop-up alert and audible warnings if exceeding the set speed.
As far as I remember it’s been this way since the first v3.0 betas three years ago and is also totally unacceptable, I have requested control over these functions often but as is often the case beta testers have very little influence on the resulting releases (all the major issues with v3.8 and v3.9 were reported during beta testing but released as is anyway).
I passed by that way earlier today and didn’t notice any cameras marked in the app that weren’t also present in reality, nor are there any still showing up in WME. Are they still visible in your copy of the app?
Don’t forget that unlike road segments, cameras aren’t updated when routing, you need to manually dump the cache and reload the map.
I have version 3.9 and finally found how to turn the alerts off thanks to you all. On the version I have I have to go to Settings>Display Settings>Show on Map there are 10 setting to shut off. I had to shut off the road goodies, and a few others. There are just too many distractions and annoyances.

I remember turning Speed Cameras off a couple of years ago. This had the almost useless effect of not showing where the cameras are but still giving the audible and pop-up warning for Speed Cameras. There is no way to stop these pop-up warnings.
But I have turned off Cameras again and will test again to see if the same dire situation remains…
