Google found me this: http://www.tomtomforums.com/t24317-speed-camera-warnings-m25.html - suggests that some may have been removed 2-3 years ago, but doesn’t give exact details.

Have you checked Google Streetview?
The variable and mobile cams on that stretch still show on the CamerAlert database so if they’ve gone and you are a subscriber there’s a lifetime membership to be had for reporting it ![]()
Glancing along the west and north of the M25, I think most of the reported speed cameras are bogus.
Many of them don’t even have gantries or road markings nearby.
There may be a pair of cameras near J15 (M4). You can get a reasonable view of the back of the gantries from A4 in Streetview. There’s a sign on the gantry and markings on the road, and I see just about make out the cameras.
There are a few cameras reported here near J10, and you can see them in Street View, but only on the south-bound side. The next gantry along (clockwise) has them on both directions.
I reckon you should delete them all from the entire M25, and verify each new one that gets reported.
(I really don’t understand why speed camera alerts are necessary in the first place, but never mind)
This is the kind of methodology I’ve been using for our motorways and trunks!
Ok, so do I have agreement for this, or should I wait for a day or so?
PS I rarely check speed cameras when editing as there is just too much else to do

The details in that particular UR are very specific and likely to be correct, and I think you’ll struggle to find evidence to support it. You could bounce the request back to the person who submitted it and ask, but chances of getting a reply is small. So, I’d take his word for it and delete cameras from that stretch.

Indeed, it’s a lot of work. I spent some time verifying and updating the cameras along a couple roads in Leeds, and it took a lot of ‘street view crawling’. Plenty of other stuff to be getting on with…
There’s a whole raft on the M42 - it peed me off no end getting constant Speed Trap voiceovers. Not only that, looking on the map they’re all set to 30mph!

The number on them is just a speedcam icon, they all say 30. You need to click on them to see the set speed.
And then there’s the whole kph, mph thing

The only appear on the live map if they’ve been approved in papyrus/cartouche and you only get the warning when exceeding the set speed.
Obviously if the speed is not set or wrong (ie 70 for a motorway in papyrus which should be ~112kph) then you’ll get the warning anyway.
Okay.
In respect to the cameras on the western side of the M25. Between the M3 and A3, almost every gantry has a camera both ways. In between the M40 and the M3, there are I think 3 cameras each way. HOWEVER, they move them.
Either leave them all, or delete them all. Don’t piss about.
North of the M40 has no cameras on gantrys YET. If there are cameras there then they are probably left over from the roadworks last year.
I think I’d be in favour of deleting them on all motorways (unless they have a permanent speed limit lower than the normal 70mph). People should be aware of the speed limit on motorways (whether they choose to break it or not - yes, that’s you, Mr Black Range Rover). In any case, the M25 speed limits are variable in places so a set limit on Waze is pretty meaningless. On non-motorways the speed limit is not always immediately obvious.

If you have no speed set on the camera, does it give a popup warning? If not, ATM cameras could just be set with no speed so they appeared in client but never actually bothered anyone.

Any thoughts from people managing other motorways?

It is slightly out of my patch but, I have travelled on the M6 a few times recently between 10a (M54) and the M5 or M42 junctions. This section has Active Traffic Management where speed cameras only get turned on at limits lower than 70mph. There are quite a few cameras from the M5 up that are not verified. However there are a couple that have limits set (There is one in particular that is set as 50 km/h (32mph) on the junction from the M40 N to M42 N ). Personally I am fell that these should be deleted as I think they will serve no use, as the chances are that when the are “active”, you will be in traffic and below the speed limit anyway.
I drive on the ATM section of the M42 fairly often. I think I can say with some confidence that I don’t get a warning for all cameras along this section. Lets try removing the set speeds from ATM areas and see what happens? I would rather not just have a blanket “delete all cameras” unless it’s absolutely necessary.
I don’t mind what we do as long as we’re all consistent.

+1
Right, I’ve gone through each camera between the A3 and the M40 and made sure they all have no speed set. Once these have come through let’s see if there is any feedback.
