This map lets you drill down to individual street level for the Federal Functional Classification of each road. This information maps directly into this table in our Wiki:

Comparing these data with our Maine maps on Waze, it appears to me that there is quite a lot of “road type inflation,” e.g. we have more roads mapped as Major Highways than appears justified. Is this a conscious decision and, if so, are the standards being applied written down somewhere?

You are correct, according to this, there are way to many MH and other incorrect classifications. Feel free to start adjusting as needed.
