I have started the process of verifying Functional Classification (FC) in the state, and I began today in the Burlington area. In case anyone is alarmed by the sudden increase in “major highways” and “minor highways” in particular, please see the FC standardization portion of the USA wiki:

What state maps are you using for a resource?

I found a statewide map on the VDOT site, but it was a bit large.

I am starting on FC, working from the bottom of the state.

I was using the VTrans PDFs as outlined on the FC page: https://wiki.waze.com/wiki/FC-USA. I haven’t checked the two GIS sites recently to see if they have added FC layers.

I managed to unearth a 2005 FC Shapefile on the VTrans site. I uploaded it to the VCGI Interactive map, and it worked! I’m using it to confirm street names for the smaller “roads” that are on the FC pdf map.

I don’t trust it over the 2014 pdf map, but so far I haven’t found any differences between the two.

Update - 11/01

This is where we stand for FC as of tonight. The green counties are complete, and the highway names are set per state Wiki.

The red counties are ones I still need to work on.
