Hello everyone,
The organization I work for is looking for a Waze community member to add warning points on Waze maps for the places in Northern California where Amtrak railroad tracks cross over roads. We are looking to specifically place points in 8 Northern California counties: Placer, Sacramento, Yolo, Solano, Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, and Santa Clara, along a 170-mile Amtrak rail corridor. We have data for the points and would be more than happy to get in touch with anyone who can help us get this set up on Waze. The goal of adding the points would be to warn with a notification incoming drivers or walkers that they are approaching railroad tracks for safety purposes.
Please respond on here or contact me for more information.
Thanks for any help that can be provided,
Aaron
I’m going to pass this to others, but right now I don’t think Waze has what you’re looking for. But to be sure, what do you mean by “warning points”?
I also suggest removing your e-mail from a public post.
We do have the capability to place a hazard warning, but at present, Railroad Crossing is not one of the available options. We could place a generic Road Hazard, with a text note indicating the Railroad Crossing, but the latter part would not be announced verbally.
This is what it looks like when you actually tap the bubble in the app, the automatic warning would have a different appearance and would be smaller, but the general idea would be similar:

We might be able to lobby Waze to create a new addition to the list, but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that, even if they approve, as it could take a while.
If you’d like you can contact me (tonestertm) and users jemay and ottonomy by PM, as we are the volunteer leadership in California and the southwest US, and we can discuss details further.
Thanks for your post, we look forward to hearing from you!
