Map Raid for Speed Limits [Ended]

No, sometimes I have to zoom in and back out but it does come back after that.

This is because WME doesn’t load segment data for below zoom 2.

But I can still see your highlighted segments at zooms 0 or 1, sometimes…

You can change the zoom level that colour highlights shows on each type of road in it’s options / settings. You still need to move the map to get it to load new areas sometimes.

I am guessing this is because you had viewed the area at a closer zoom, where the segment data is loaded, then zoomed out.

When you reach a zoom level (0/1) where segment data is no longer loaded, no new segments will be highlighted. But any data that had already loaded when zoomed in closer will still be cached. This results in a “block” of highlighted segments surrounded by un-highlighted areas.

This is similar to the problem that sometimes occurs with permalinks at low zoom. You can pan across the map at higher zoom selecting segments, then zoom out to have all selected segments visible and create a permalink. The segments stay selected for you because the data is cached. If the permalink is at a zoom level too low to select those segments without zooming in, then another editor opening your permalink will find no segments are selected.

Really glad I’m taking part in this at home Map Raid  (Usually I take part in MMRs around the world, so it’s nice to do one in my own back yard for once ;))

Scanning through the Kent countryside I’ve found plenty of little villages with roads untouched since they were drawn in around 2012 / 2013 & many without names or just plainly in the wrong place - the map already looks better to me (and probably lots of wazers in rural areas).

Having all the auto roads at (3) has been a major help, and with any luck by the end of the raid I’ll have enough points for L4 and won’t have to bug the CMs periodically for downlocks

Thanks again, Tim - a great idea

Ian

If anyone would a detailed list of remaining Highway segments that need verifying, send me a PM with the name of the county you’re working in…

Updated stats available here –> State of the Nation - Speed Limits - May 22th, 2016

And here are the 20 largest counties with less than 40% verified speed limits on A roads:

Lancashire
County Durham
Kirklees
Fife
Sheffield
Perth And Kinross
Herefordshire
Wakefield
Doncaster
Stoke-on-trent
Bolton
Sunderland
Argyll And Bute
Rochdale
Rotherham
Oldham
Barnsley
Stirling
Stockton-on-tees
Ceredigion

I’ll concentrate on Bolton and Oldham (some of Bolton I did today).

I’m still working on mid wales but, i’ll branch into herefordshire (just across the border)

I’m (slowly) working my way round Scotland

I cleared most of Birmingham and the west West Midlands, I’m working on Lancashire (around M6) and will get back to Ceredigion after that.

I’ll leave the M6 area to Laurence and continue to focus on the Blackpool/Wyre/Fylde areas. I’ve made some progress over the last couple of days but obviously not enough!

I’ve come across various roads/stray segments in Blackpool that are hardlocked to level 4. Am I best compiling a big list of them for someone to look over in one go?

Bedfordshire should be pretty much covered.

I won’t be back up in Scotland until the end of July, but I’m willing to help.

Central Scotland, around Stirling would be OK if you want to grant me access.

A message from Waze…

:geek:

Nice one.

Hope I sped up that slow progress a little!

woo hoo!!

Woohoo! 2nd June!

Very nice! Congratulations to everyone and well done for those who made this possible!
