We’re nearly at the required level of completion of speed limits for our roads, and it’s time for an organised push to the finish line. Waze are keen to release this new feature to all users quite soon.
So, during the month of May, we are going to have a Map Raid! The focus will be on getting speed limits verified on as many A roads as possible. To facilitate this, we have asked Waze to temporarily reduce the maximum rank that will be used for Automatic locks, from 4 to 3, as of now.
Area Managers should focus on completing the A roads in their areas first, and moving on to other major roads that have not yet been verified. Once their own areas are complete, AMs can apply for additional, temporary areas to verify more speed limits.
Country Managers are asked to help out in areas that need it, and in particular the long distance routes that aren’t covered by AMs. I’ll post a list of areas below.
All editors are reminded to follow the guidelines in this thread. See 2nd post for progress updates.
Please do also take the opportunity to update city boundaries (which are often found at speed limit points) and to fix any other mapping issues you spot along the way.
Registered Beta testers can see the current speed limits set in the app by using the search code ##@debugspeed. There are also some community apps for easily reporting limits while on the road - see links in thread above.
I just spotted the Level 3 Reduction. I was thinking I was sure the roads were Auto level 4 last night?
Thanks Tim This will help me get London done quickly.
I thought I’d left a load of MH @ L3, phew
Cambridgeshire done this weekend, finishing off Peterborough, then etc…
Whohoo! I won’t have to batter Iain with L4 unlocks in Liverpool now!
Working through Cambridge and surroundings. Is it possible to get a zoomed in version of the heat map? Or amybe a version of the WME plugin that highlights unverified SL?
My Color Highlights script will highlight segments with unverified speed limits (link in signature).
I am using it… but just now figured out that turning off the lock highlight makes it a lot easier to spot the unverified SLs
Thing I’ve found now is the Validator is now highlighting a few roads that weren’t connected to previously Auto(4) roads.
Doing this makes you realise how bad the road signs are in Britain!
As far as I can tell in Liverpool all blue and green roads are now verified within the confines of the M57. I’ll be working out from there and on Manchester soon.
Sorry I beat you to doing most of the side roads in Liverpool. But then what do you expect from a Dagenham and Redbridge Supporter who got to go to Everton FC in January.
We may have lost 2-0 but it was one of the best matches I have been to for atmosphere.
That’s all green and blue roads done within the M60.
I’m currently working through most of mid wales.
If people are going to set Speed Limits in London. Please remember that the London Boroughs of Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Camden, Hackney and The City of London are now 20mph Zones. (Except TfL controled roads) Well I have just found out that from April 2016 Lambeth and Haringey have joined the club. Haringay council have supplied a map which is helpfull.
Waltham Forest is rolling out 20mph zones so not sure what is happening there.
But now I have a UR says of a speed limit change from 30mph to 20mph. So please remember if setting speed limits in London. Please check the area for 20mph zones and the roads that are Red Routes are controlled by TfL so at the moment they are 30mph at least.
Please take care when setting the remaining limits in this borough - I’ve been working my way around there for the past few weeks with only a small area left to go, and I’ve now noticed some of the roads that I know I’d set as 20MPH based on the aforementioned map have been changed back to 30MPH with your name showing up as the last editor… Looks as if you may have been using the “select all” button to select the few stretches I hadn’t already verified, and in the process ended up also selecting segments that had been verified.
Tim,
I have done all the A roads I could see missing in my patch and in my editable areas. If you want to give me temporary access to an area or areas that need attention I have some time to continue the push.
Do you have an easy way to get completion stats per area? Might be helpful.
Sylvain
As I’ve asked before I’d really like an updated version of the heat map that’s linked to in this post. I know about 2 plugins that will highlight unverified or unset limits, but only when you’re zoomed in to level 2 or closer. When you’re trying to identify where you’ve missed in a large area like mine, wandering around at level 2 is pretty tedious!
Thanks
Martin
Martin,
Tim’s WME Color Highlights works for me at zoom level 0 and 1 as well on Chrome.
Sylvain
Odd. It doesn’t for me, also in Chrome. If I zoom out to 1 or 0 and then move the map, I don’t get highlights on the new roads I expose. Is it me??
Would still prefer a better heat map anyhow - even zoom level 0 in the editor shows a fairly small part of the area I’m trying to look after.
Thanks
