Firstly is there anyone on this forum at the moment?
I have been intensely editing the roads lately to try get some order in Nairobi.
With some help I managed to get Weslands roundabout sorted.
My question for my fellow map editors is. Do we map dirt roads as dirt roads or not. The reason I ask this is we have many major roads that are dirt roads and most people dont select using dirt roads in the app.
Do we stick to keeping major roads as roads even if they are dirt or do we jam other roads by making them dirt?
Hi,
I am sure that the road you looked at as a dirt road has since been ficed
I have decided to map as is. Before I got very involved, I wasn’t sure if users use the off road feature on their mobile devices.
I have mapped about 400km of new roads in Kenya. I spend 10 to 20 hours a week fixing roads. I also manage the Nairobi area.

As what I guess 80% of the roads in Kenya can be classed as dirt-roads, the question is quite adequate…
It would have been nice with an “Unpaved” level as a mid-between “Street”/“Dirt-road” grading. A dirt-road is for me where it is suitable to have a 4WD offroad vehicle.
I’m in Kenya temporarily and have been mapping missing roads around me in Thika. I note that the WME has an “Unpaved” checkbox. I have been using “Streets” with “Unpaved” for normal streets and roads that are simply unpaved, but quite navigable by any vehicle. I think dirt roads would be out in the bush where you might need a high-clearance vehicle or 4WD to comfortably make it through.
