This is my first major intersection, the alignment of SH 1 needed to be tweaked and there were turn restrictions that would have created routing problems. Yet this is my first major intersection and I wish to ensure that I am doing it correctly before I attempt anymore.
Please if I have made any mistakes would you comment but not change them, I learn best by doing I will carry on adjusting roads around Mercer until I get confirmation that I havenât missed/stuffed anything. I have adjusted the name from sh 1 to state hwy 1 but at this stage have not changed the city from Waikato, though I have a vague idea that using the greater area name has been agreed to be incorrect.
Oh in case anyone is concerned I have lived locally to Mercer and know the area well. I highly recommend a visit to Pokeno Bacon for anyone looking for a superb bacon butty and their hams are to die for.
I dont see anything majorly wrong with it, except for âSH1â which is the NZTA name and is what should really be used. Unfortunately the TTS doesnt seem to work as the US version does by saying State Highway, but if all the roads are the same we should be able to get Waze to fix the TTS to read it the same as the US (if they are not standard then they wont)
The intersection looks good, and I think that the section of SH1 running through Mercer should be named that way as well. Makes more sense than âWaikatoâ.
As for the name, I can see both sides on this one - I donât like the TTS effect for SHx and itâs especially annoying (or amusing) when youâre on SH-41 - it sounds more like Sean Connery after a few Martinis - âTurn left onto-shfortyoneâ!
nzhook - have you had any confirmation from Waze that they will be changing this and that the âstandardâ needs to be in place for this to occur? If there is a firm answer from them and we can get it done ASAP then itâs worth sticking with SHx, otherwise use State Hwy x to keep the directions clear.
I noticed that Koheroa Rd has an extra intersection node that could be removed though. Waze adds a time penalty for each node when calculating itâs routing, and while one is unlikely to make a difference, several can.
I agree, while I think itâd be ideal to have SH1 etc if the TTS worked (or was likely to work in the near future), the âturn right onto shhwonâ drives me nuts!
Wow this is great thanks for the help and feedback. Youâre right about the node I will remove it. They seem to be good on long roads without side roads eg SH 1 past Turangi but I agree this one is unnecessary.
No, they havnt bothered to answer any of my queries about it, Ive just sent another one.
However based on how the petrol stations went, it would likely be the same thing. When they see that its common they will fix it currently if everything is State Hwy (which is not even spelt correctly) they will assume the standard in NZ is that and not what NZTA is.
And yes that annoying SSHHThree gets to me as well, but I dont want to go around changing roads like âDevon Street (SH3)â to âDevon Street (State Highway 3)â because its not sign posted that way (in fact I wonder where they are upto with getting something to make shields).
