What is the correct way that roads should be named when they have Saint in their name?
For example, street signs in my area show “St John Str” which is abbreviated for “Saint John Street”.
The street above is named in Waze exactly like the street sign. This causes a problem when Waze pronounces the street name. It will say turn at “Street John street” instead of saying “Saint John Street”.
Should I edit those streets and change the leading “St” to “Saint”, or just leave it as is to match the street signs?
Type it in as “St.” with a period and no quotes to get TTS to say Saint.

As bigbear3764 mentioned, we are in the same boat as the UK since we use the UK English voices for TTS in South Africa. The “St.” will be correctly pronounced as Saint anywhere in a street name, and the same would typically go for “Dr.” vs “Dr” for Doctor and Drive.

Trying to remember what exactly it is called, there was a file of TTS test abbreviations. Was tested for NA server, but think most work on ROTW too.

I provided the forum links for the discussions that I’m aware of, since we are close cousins to the UK in terms of TTS. Other rules would apply for the US English versions.
The wiki reference was more for the editing aspect 
I don’t think there is a currently a dedicated section for TTS in the Wiki, but then again, the Wiki is not always known to be 100% user friendly for searches. kentsmith has been adding a lot of extra matches to ensure proper hits for common searches, but I think everyone shies away from doing a dedicated TTS page due to all the different rules that applies in various places around the globe.
Just for reference, there is a list of some of the common local street suffixes at http://www.waze.com/wiki/?title=Suffix_Abbreviations_(South_Africa) and also a reference to some of the ‘tried and tested’ suffixes that is maintained by other (mostly US) editors.

I missed this too. Thanks to Kuhlkatz for fixing my mistake on a Saint
At the rate that we are going through Ministers of Health in South Africa, it’s also worth noting that Doctor is abbreviated to Dr., so in Durban, Prince Edward Street, which is now Dr Goonam Street, should be labelled as ‘Dr. Goonam St’, otherwise TTS will announce ‘Drive Goonam Street’ if the period is left out.
I’ve only now just switched the full guidance on again on my phone, as I used to be irritated at how some of the names get mangled, but in three days I’ve already picked up two incorrectly labelled slip roads. So this is where you would hear Saint being announced as Street incorrectly abbreviated.
I also found it interesting going through and listening to all the cached tts files on my phone, as even though full guidance was disabled, Waze still generated the tts file, so the navigation announcements for my recent trips to JHB and DBN were all there.
