When a place has more than one entry point, is there any reason why the app should choose the entry point that IS NOT tagged as the main entry point?
I have a UR in relation to this location, which has two entry points assigned. The main entrance has the “Main” check box correctly selected, with the secondary delivery entrance not selected as such, however the UR reporter states they were taken to the secondary entrance. I’ve just tested it in the app myself, and the secondary entry point is also selected by default. I can, of course, change this manually to the primary entry point, however I’d be concerned on behalf of the general basic app user that they wouldn’t notice this as an option.
Can anyone suggest why this may be defaulting to the secondary entry point? A bug perhaps?
Multiple entry points feature still in development, so it could very well be a bug. I believe currently that Waze will direct the user to the closest/most convenient entry point, if it’s main or not.
In this case, I wouldn’t recommend a service entrance be added to the place, as, for one thing, Waze isn’t for commercial vehicles, so shouldn’t be directing traffic there.
Saying that, I thought on the iPhone (not Android), you could now select the entry point you wanted, but I’m not seeing that now.
Introduce a new feature designed by people who have no experience of using the app or editor and haven’t put any significant thought into how it will work
Listen carelessly to feedback and then either do nothing or make things worse
Get interested in something else and abandon the feature half-completed
The app was supposed to be capable of offering you a choice of entry points. AFAIK, that functionality was never delivered and which point is primary has no effect. I think it chooses the “best” entry point based on things like approach direction, but I’m sure the Waze definition of “best” won’t match anything you might come up with.
I’m on iPhone and it did give me the option to choose an entry point after choosing the destination, however it’s not massively obvious and if you don’t do anything the ticker on Go Now counts down and starts your navigation regardless.
Ah, I didn’t realise you had to acutally initiate the drive (my usual phone is Android, so I’m not used to the iPhone). The default on my iPhone was the main entrance, so I’m not sure why the service entrance was given to them, unless they selected it manually.
It also might not help, there are several other Google Place entries that could do with being linked. I don’t think that will have caused this issue though.
When I first tested in the app, I was given the secondary entrance, however testing it again two minutes ago for the screenshots, it defaulted to the main entrance.
I’m sat on my backside on the sofa, so I might be 10cm closer to one entrance than the other second time around, but not significantly so!!!
I’ll remove the secondary entrance as an entry point I guess!
I can confirm on that one my iPhone selects the Shopmobility Car Park to navigate to. On looking at the list, it say’s Best ETA, so it is selecting the nav point which is quickest to get to.
This confirms that we shouldn’t be mapping nav points that general public would want to avoid.
I’m sure* I read somewhere that for users that don’t get Multiple Entry Points Waze navigated to the first Nav Point in the list, regardless of Main being set
