Hey Everyone,
Everywhere I have read, it seems that contacting/posting in the forum is the best way to get started. I have a lot of down time, and have used this app almost religiously in the past 10 months driving. I would love to give back to the community that saved me many hours among various drives.
I have read a lot on the wiki about various rules, how to edit roads, places, etc.
My main question I guess is; is there something in particular a level 1 editor can do? What needs working on within the London - Woodstock - Hamilton - Niagara Falls area?
Feel free to comment here or PM me with any helpful suggestions.
Thanks,
Sean Rezno
Hi Sean and welcome.
I wish all new users acted like you and introduced themselves.
As a new editor on level 1 (we call it R1) you can edit in 1 mile radius from anywhere you drove while Waze was open (given you were logged in with your username). This will give you a good enough start and most likely you know the area you drive at.
You can show in the map editor the area you have permission to edit and this will help you know where you can edit.
As a new editor you can’t edit segments that are lock above your rank, but there is a forum space where you can request unlocks from other editors. Most does not require editing, so I suggest you consult with someone before starting over something massive, to find out if there is a reason why it is set that way.
Adding new segments for streets that are new in your area and not showing in Waze are very high value. Adding businesses is also useful, but may require approval from “trusted” editor. Eventually you will also become trusted and can approve request for changes to venues too.
Speed limit is also an area that gives you opportunity to make edits that help improve the map for everyone. There are still a lot of segments with no speed limit.
Once you climb up the editing ladder you will get a chance to show your editing skills, and then we could consider giving you an area to manage, where you can also look after update requests and map problem in your area.
Just so you know, while some of the communications is going on in the forum, it is most active in Google Hangout, where we have a few active groups and we discuss some issues related to Waze.
If you are interested joining either provide your email address associated with your Google account here or by personal message, and I will add you the relevant groups. It will help you stay closer to the action.
Thanks again for the post and I hope I answered the question you had.
Thanks for the information hmarian. I have been currently setting residential speed limits due to most having none.
I will PM you my email.
