New road: Gateford Way

This new road is called Gateford Way.

https://www.waze.com/en-GB/editor?env=row&lon=-2.98185&lat=53.62639&s=70360341&zoom=6&segments=366395048

(Google Maps correctly shows its name)

It’s not in my driving area so I can’t name it!

Can some kind editor name it for me please?

Thank you.

Do you have another, allowable source for that segment name? Copying names from Google Maps is forbidden as we cannot take information from copyrighted sources.

I’ve managed to name 8 other segments on the new estate from OS OpenData, which is allowed. But they have no name for this segment yet.

Only that a friend of mine has recently moved into a house in that road! So it’s definitely correct. But I appreciate this might not be considered ‘proof’.

Thank you.

I can confirm the full address is Gateford Way, Southport, PR8 5QE. Also that https://www.zoopla.co.uk/property/7-gateford-way/southport/pr8-5qe/33166441 lists a property at that road.

And https://www.hopewiser.com/free-address-search/ confirms that 3, 5, 7 & 9 are the only houses to exist at PR8 5QE.

Does that help?

You had me there.

You said it was outside your driving area, so I naturally assumed you didn’t have first hand knowledge. But “a friend told me from his first-hand knowledge” is exactly the way Waze is supposed to work - updated by real people with local knowledge. When you referred to Gmaps in the initial post, I assumed that was your source.

We don’t need “absolute proof” - just a source for the information that isn’t copied from a copyright source. “My mate” or a UR etc are fine.

Just as a side note, the Hopewiser link uses the Royal Mail lookup and the page reproduces the RM T&Cs which clearly state you can only use the information for private use. So, like GMaps, you can’t use it as a primary source. However, if you already have the information (from your friend in this case), using external sources to check what you already have is fine.

As for the Zoopla link, that’s tricky. Estate Agents websites are all copyrighted, plus they have T&Cs to prevent competitors scraping their content. But I seriously doubt any estate agent would object to us making their properties easier to find by potential buyers. I frequently use site maps from developers’ websites to draw in new estates. On the few occasions I’ve contacted developers for more information, they’ve been more than happy to assist. One even sent me the full-size master site plan with all the house numbers, pathways and plantings mapped out.

Thank you so much for your clear explanation and for editing the roads

It was really appreciated
