I hope this isn’t stepping on any toes, or upsetting folks. I thought I would pop up in here that I am new to Waze and new to editing, but I live in the Catskill region of NY and I am looking forward to helping tackle things in the region. I am mostly between Greene and Ulster Counties, but I do enjoy taking my motorcycle into the mountains and what have you.
If there is anything specific I should look at, just give a shout. Mind you I am still getting the hang of things.

You found the forum, which is a great first step. I recommend you to check out the Waze wiki and familiarize yourself with our standards (start with at least the Quick Start Guide,Best Practices, and the Junction Style Guide). We also have a specific New York page. It’s a lot of info early on, but following it will make you a great editor from the start!
The NY community has a very active Google Hangout where there’s almost always some one available to assist you. Send one of our state managers or I a message on here and we can invite you to the group. You can also get information and answers throughout the Waze forums.
At the moment, there are not too many active editors in your area. I currently have the I-87 corridor plus some extra around Saugerties and Catskill open if you need any help.
I’ve started looking at the URs in the area and following the UR guide here in the forum… started closing out ones that were over 7 days old and made no sense.
Before I reached out on the forums, I made sure to read up on everything that I could. And to test that knowledge, my first real edit was fixing the address on my house. One of my friends sent in the UR, and I decided o take care of it, and learn how to do it. I have another one near my house that is open, that I am going to fix as soon as I have a moment to visually check it out to make sure it something that needs to be done.
Being that I commute between the Cairo Area and Kingston, I thought I would start cleaning up the older ones, and see what pops up as newer ones. I know that Washington Ave in Kingston needs to be updated as there is a whole section of it closed to traffic and has been that way for the last year or so. (sink hole issue)

That would be great; Kingston definitely needs some cleanup! Unfortunately I don’t get into town there often, so I don’t make too many changes regarding closures. I know the area around the mall has a lot of URs. You’ll likely need some unlocks there, so you’ll want to look into making a permalink and posting in the US unlocks when you get to that point (we can also handle many of them in the NY Hangout).
