New user in town!

Hey guys!

Just started using Waze. Still trying to figure out how to fix the maps coz its giving me detours to death and back :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m almost 21, I study electronic engineering at the University of Pretoria. I’m trying to use my connections to get some publication for Waze in South Africa. But will let you know how that goes.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi from the best city in the most beautiful country in the world!

Lekker week vir julle almal!

Xethron!

I think you have the right ideas. See if this helps you:

http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Help_for_an_incomplete_map

And if you get stuck:

Thank you so much! I’m reading up as much as I can :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m trying to work on all the roads I travel so that it will give me the correct routs. When will the routs update on my phone if I made a change on the map?

You can refresh the maps on your phone manually, but it does take at least 24 hours for the changes to be made available on the server.
The option for removing cached maps on your phone is under “Settings”, “Data Usage”, “Refresh map of my area”. Once you do this waze will then download the new maps of the area you are driving in.

It should at least show up on the Live map before you should even bother refreshing your phone.

(Your phone caches the maps for up to a week as well)

http://www.waze.com/wiki/index.php/Timeline_of_updating_process#New_roads might help…

The other really stupid issue is that world.waze.com is needed in ZA and that accidentally opening www.waze.com results in a blank map

aah… that explains allot. Because the first time I looked at waze I was like… NOOO, its not supported in SA. :stuck_out_tongue:

Then when I opened it again, most of the roads was there. Was weird. Least now I know I’m not going insane. :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way, I set up a huge complicated structure for Charles/Atterbury. (I think Atterbury is spelt incorrectly on waze, but ill fix that) Because its a double road and Charles has 4 lanes and so forth. Please take a look at it and tell me if it’l work. If not zoomed in completely, the user will think its right. If zoomed in completely, waze should give the right directions.

Thanks

If you open the Live Map, at the bottom you will see a “Last Updated Date” which is the last time updates made in cartouche was synchronized to the Live Map, in my experience it takes between 3 and 5 days for the edits to flow through.

I have also just recently started using Waze. Now when the rest of the family sleeps, I edit roads
I have started mapping the east of Pretoria (Waverley, Villieria etc.)

It looks as if there is quite a lot of activity, navigation on the routes I take is better almost every day. Now I am just trying to convince people to start using Waze…

Jup… Me too…

Joined the IRC channel (In my sig), makes it more fun to chat with other waze users. Want to advertise it in Nag (contacts), Tech Smart, and on UP Main campus! But will need some cash for posters…

But its nice meeting everyone in South Africa. Good to see the SA community growing!

The streets look mostly shaped properly, you might want to enable all turns on the junctions (look at “highlight connectivity”)

I usually make the slipways just normal roads, but there seem to be a lack of standards for that. (the top road seem to be the only clear slipway)

It might make sense to make the part of Klarinet St North of Atterbury two lanes as well until it merges? (You will need several disconnect road from junctions to get it done) If you can’t delete the roads, move them where they are obviously wrong and it is easy to delete them when I go through the pending list

Hmm, ok, I’ll give it a try once my exams are over. :stuck_out_tongue:

Its lots of fun. And makes it worth the effort when your map edits appear on your phone! :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyway, I’ll see you on IRC.
