No "roundabout" instructions

Hello guys,

Whenever I approach roundabout, the voice will stop giving me instructions, and the UI doesn’t display the Exit number.

“on the roundabout, exit…” and goes silent…

It has been very consistant behavior ever since I use Waze. And it reappear on my Galaxy S2, first running Gingerbread 2.3.4, then 2.3.6 and now on ICS 4.0.3

If I shut down the phone and restart, and use Waze for first time, it works like charm. As soon as i want to use it after that first time, it will stop informing me (only) about the roundabout exit.

Any remedy for that ?

regards
Sebastian

The roundabout is mapped incorrectly, what better reason to read up on the wiki and get editing!
Did you report a map error? We don’t know about problems unless we’re told. Where is it? Permalink?

Read it again xteejx, the OP didn’t identify a specific Roundabout, they said whenever they approach a roundabout. I read that as being any round-about. This looks more like an app issue than a mapping issue. I’d recommend deleting and re-installing the app.

This is usually due to mapping errors, though it might not be in this instance.

If you tell us which particular roundabouts are showing this behaviour, we’ll be able to check the out.

Guys, thank you very much for the prompt follow up.

Sorry, I should have clear that up. The instruction work or doesn’t on the same roundabout.
On the way out from my house, to reach the main roads out, leading to town, I need to pass two
roundabouts before I venture into directions I don’t know. These two roundabouts are my first indicators when things go wrong.
As I said earlier, right after restart, Waze will work fine and will inform me on the correct exit. But
if I were to return home, or use Waze again the next day, it will stop roundabout info. I can reproduce every single time.
To be honest it’s not a big deal, I can look at the map and figure out which exit I was supposed to take. But there is something wrong obviously. And it shouldn’t be specific to my phone only. I have very little apps, and as I said earlier, it happens across few versions of OS, even after clear install on brand new OS.

You guys have a nice weekend ahead
once again, thank you for looking into my post,

best regards
Sebastian

Here is the roundabout that I can reproduce the problem with every time.

http://goo.gl/maps/VRce

I live in Desa Parkcity, the place you see on the right hand side. To get out of my place and reach highway, I need to take the first exit on the roundabout (9 o’clock exit).
As I said earlier, if I restart the phone and launch WAZE, it will work. But if I launch it, close it and launch it again, it will no longer assist me on the roundabout. I use this way out as first indicator. If Waze kind lady says nothing, I pull over, restart the phone and start from scratch

Cheers

It would be much more helpful to topy a Waze permalink here (either from LiveMap, or from an editor), like https://world.waze.com/editor/?zoom=6&lat=3.1894&lon=101.62328&layers=BFTFTTTTTTFTTTTFTTTTFT or https://world.waze.com/livemap/?lat=3.18958&lon=101.62164&zoom=9&layers=BTTTTT&from_lon=101.62308162963&from_lat=3.1890143600838&to_lon=101.62029213226&to_lat=3.1900427328724&from_seg=147726517&to_seg=143098790
Never mind.

Something like this route? https://world.waze.com/livemap/?lat=3.18778&lon=101.62653&zoom=9&layers=BTTTTT&from_lon=101.62600549021&from_lat=3.1886401156479&from_seg=147728038&to_lon=101.61991151133&to_lat=3.1895613666543&to_seg=152638089

No wonder, the roundabout itself seems to be broken (or, its data in the Waze database). It is not a problem of your phone/app.
We use to call such roundabouts a “0th” ones - on many routes between its exits, the voice goes silent. The Waze Livemap Navigation Script extension would visualize the routing instructions as “depart from Persiaran Dato Shamsuddin Naim; at the roundabout, take 0th exit onto Jalan Burung Hantu; arrive at destination”. Here are a few examples: N-S, N-E, E-N, E-S, N-W, E-W.
At the moment the only known way, how to handle this problem, is to delete the roundabout’s segments and create it again.

Note, if this happens again, or you think you’ve come across a map error please report it using your phone. It’s the only way we know about these kinds of problems. Do it at the location though, not at home

Hi there

That’s what I did today. Again it fail to tell me the exit, so while I was approaching the roundabout, I submit the error. Tho, I was driving so I couldn’t put any details, just mark is as Map error.

Thanks and have a nice day

regards

Seba

Hopefully that should be enough for your local AM to fix it. To make doubly sure, post a permalink in your local country’s subforum.

Hi guys, figured I’d post this on this topic as it’s very relevant to the topic. I have had this issue too with at least two roundabouts.

Now, someone is rightly going to tell me to report it. I do each time. The problem is, whoever is reviewing my reports is saying there’s not enough information, and kills it.

This happened enough that I started putting in VERY detailed info. At the last roundabout I reported today, I left the info that "Waze’s spoken instructions do not understand which roundabout exit to take, i.e. says “At the roundabout, take the … onto the M6 motorway”.

And again, frustratingly (very frustratingly  ), some reviewer just closed it leaving me an automatic email that I didn’t provide enough information. I want someone to fix it and I can’t, being a mere level one editor!

Here’s the culprit in question: http://world.waze.com/livemap/?zoom=9&lat=53.7644&lon=-2.6377&layers=BTTTTT

Approach from the West and the problem arises. I’ve written a report directly on the live map as well. Ta all

Not really any point hijacking an abandoned thread, but no matter.
As this is a UK issue in Lancashire, please post in the UK forum.

I would suggest PMing this user and asking what the hell is going on. It may be that they are a complete noob and need slapping down and told how to do it properly…irritating our on-the-road Wazers indeed! It simply isn’t acceptable that even when you have given what most would consider enough information, that you are still told it wasn’t identified.

As Waze becomes more popular, this will happen more often, so bonus points for finding the forums and posting to make us aware!

If you don’t get a response, or an unsatisfactory reply, let us know by updating the post (the new one you’ll be creating in the UK forum, right ;))

If you feel a need to name and shame in the post, feel free. We’re a democracy, freedom of speech and all that… (Note: We do keep a mental list of those that repeat offend and they are dealt with by Country Managers and Waze, just in case you were wondering)

Hope this helps in some way

Sounds pretty like the infamous ‘0-th roundabout’ problem, isn’t it? I’m not at a computer, can not check the LiveMap.
[edit] Yup, it is: http://world.waze.com/livemap/?zoom=9&lat=53.76512&lon=-2.63867&layers=BTTTTT&from_lon=-2.6374532821652&from_lat=53.76606361742&from_seg=161730150&to_lon=-2.6440622451777&to_lat=53.764998208674&to_seg=200348994#

It’s one of those peanut shaped roundabouts with no connection in the middle. Probably needs rebuilt.

I am still getting this issue and I am running the beta version. I can add a little more light on the topic though.
As you approach a roundabout from a distance, the message reads out “At the roundabout, take the” then silent. Sometimes, this is repeated on the second message a little closer to the roundabout, speed and distance dictating whether you get this or not. However, if it decides to give out instructions on the roundabout, it works. This time it just says “Take the 3rd exit” for example because you are already on the roundabout.
So, this isn’t limited to just a few roundabouts so it is an error and this is my theory. Is the message limited to time? It can say “At the roundabout, take the” and that is all before a time out? But at the roundabout, dropping the first 3 words means that it can say “Take the 2nd exit” or whatever in the time it is allowed?
Out of all the instructions Waze gives, like “In 200 yards, turn right” etc the roundabout instruction is one of the longest.

The recent set of beta versions is the culprit. (Where “recent” is already measured in months.):

I like the idea of searching the forum but this thread was a year old and outdated anyway

Hi guys. Nice thread, I see everyone is contributing to a possible solution! I have encountered this same problem, where the app will not inform me which exit to take after informing me ‘at the roundabout’. I can definitively say that this error has NOTHING to do with map editing and EVERYTHING to do with the new version. On my last drive before the update I went through the roundabouts and received correct instructions about which exit to take, no problem. After the update, same roundabouts, one day later, no new edits to the map, and there is absolute silence as far as instructions are concerned. What we need now is a way to directly contact the developers and have them fix this bug in their updated Waze app.
