I have a 62 mile commute to work and I have noticed that waze is only recording slightly more than half of my miles. If I look at my route there are big sections that are missing. I know if I am on the phone it does not record, but there are way more miles missing than what I am on the phone for. I do go through some pretty rural areas, but waze shows as connected to a network the whole time.
Is there a setting that can help with this or any suggestions?

Are you sure that Waze is not losing it’s connection to the server during your drive? I assume you have a CDMA iPhone or Android?
Were you on a call during anytime of this trip?
Most cell networks do not allow data usage and phone call at the same time. There are exceptions like AT&T while on 3G network.

I am using an android, and have been on the phone for a portion of the drive, but nowhere near the amount of miles I am missing. It shows connected to the network but I am not sure.
As a new user I was just wondering if there are any settings that can help with this or if this is fairly normal.

Not specifically. It basically boils down to error on Waze’s end with the routes being analyzed or a network connectivity issue during your drive (no service, no connection to Waze’s server(s), on a phone call with a CDMA device, network disabled, etc).
The application will do some caching of the route data to handle short duration outages. It’s not designed for long term outages so may not cover if cell data coverage is spotty or non existent.
There is an option for data compression, which some have reported also helps with this.
It doesn’t record all my miles either. I drove down to Galveston from Dallas this past weekend (300 miles), and drove around for another ~200 while I was down there, and then drove back to Dallas. It didn’t record all those miles. It has a tendency to crash for no apparent reason (sometimes 2-3x in the space of 10 minutes) and I think that wipes out my mileage.
Did you go through the first 4-5 pages of your drives? Sometimes they are loaded in non-date order there. Longer portions of drives often take longer to process, too.
i notice this too but its my iphone 3gs, it sucks for waze. the gps is slow and skips and gets stuck alot.
on iphone 4, it flawless…
