Steps to reproduce this issue:
I’d like to draw your attention to an unusual situation involving (a) certain Waze user(s) who are/is making false reports about police checks, sometimes with or without cameras.
I’m aware of a few locations where this happens, but the example I’m about to share is quite extreme in terms of numbers.
Since the beginning of 2025, someone has been having fun making several reports per day — on average around three, sometimes even more — of hidden police or police with mobile cameras, usually around the position in the link, but sometimes spread out along the same street.

These reports are completely false, as my office is right nearby and in more than twenty years of working there, I’ve never seen any police activity.
Realistically, the police don’t have the personnel to be there three times a day — and the street itself isn’t really suited for speeding anyway, given the cobblestones, its narrow width, and the amount of traffic.

It’s not entirely clear what this user’s motive is. Maybe they think the area is too dangerous or too busy and want to discourage traffic in this residential neighborhood.
But in any case, this person is clearly misusing Waze to serve their own purpose.

As mentioned, this started early in 2025, and the only period without reports was during the long school holidays in July and August — perhaps when this person was away.
The reports happen daily, including weekends, public holidays, and even now over the Christmas period. Since we started monitoring this on September 1st, nearly 300 of reports have been made.

As there is no explicit user, no CAR can be submitted.

To resolve this, I’d really like to ask you to consider a way to stop this Waze user — or maybe I should say abuser — from continuing with these pointless actions. For example, it might help to block anonymous reports in this street, or perhaps in general.

This would be beneficial for everyone, especially for Waze itself, since I’ve already heard people saying that “Waze equals fake reports.” That obviously shouldn’t be the reputation this system has.

I’ve discussed this with Dana A and she suggested to create this bug.

I’ve been fielding an unusual increase in the number of complaints from drivers and editors about an increased number of obviously erronious hazard reports too.

In addition, I’m seeing hazards somehow being generated off the road, so when you drive past there is no alert, no there/no there option, and no ability to get rid of the report until it times out. Often, the report appears after the timeout not long after it disappears. I am not sure what, if any, benefit there is by creating these hazards. I note in the above post, the police report also seems to be not on the road.

I was able to block a hazard reporter recently where this was occuring in the same place for seemingly months.

The existing trust system doesn’t protect against this type of “attack”. I’d been keen to see Waze invest some time into this problem too.

The main challenge is with the anonymous reports — there doesn’t seem to be any way to block those.
When it comes to non-anonymous users, at least some action can be taken, even though these false reports still cause quite a bit of extra work on our side.

@searchjaunt I also noticed this suggestion of adding some report abuse option. It wouldn’t be a bad idea as it can keep it anonymous still but Waze staff will know who it is if they get multiple pins against their account… Report abuse – Waze Suggestion Box

On another note I have also been experiencing a lot more fake reports than before on my drives.

I guess that is sufficient as examples, no? The false reports on the Koning Leopold III-Laan are the worst, so is the first to find a solution for if no general fix can be found.
