Scary! :? Any takers? That’s a long ways outside my personal bailiwick – got enough to do in western NY to keep me busy for months.
I am a bit intimidated by URs in NYC. It seems like it would be really easy to mess things up if you don’t know the area well. So many one way streets…
And many URs are due to time restricted turns also.

Yep … and it’s not just the UR’s that keep me out of there … I’m a country boy, can’t stand big cities … even the little “city” where I work is too big for my tastes.

I’ve been doing my best over the past couple of months to clean off the Bronx, Manhattan, and Southern Westchester County. That took a long time, but now those areas (after looking like the above picture of Queens and Brooklyn) with the help of MANY OTHERS I’m sure, are cleaned off. There is still a lot of work to do in the Bronx . . . maybe that’s because it’s the one I know best (home).
I started tinkering with Queens somewhat over the past week. That’s how I got started with the Bronx. I fixed Pelham Pkwy and saw that the map of the Bronx looked like I’d run my finger over a very dusty end table. Anyhow, I just started with the CIP/678/GCP/278 corridor. What a mess! Moving away from the major roads, I’ve found that even the geometry of the side streets is off. Very strange. I happened to notice that Astoria Blvd is in MAJOR need of being made a double lane in some parts.
Being a waze neophyte (only 67K), there’s much also that I just can’t do. I know northern Queens pretty well, and other major corridors. I still have to check with some of the map programs often to make sure about certain things though. Once I get down to Myrtle Ave and start moving towards the river, things get sketchy for me pretty fast. Brooklyn is a total void for me. I’ve lived and driven in NYC and the tri-state for over 15 years now, and while I worked in Bay Ridge for awhile, I didn’t work there long enough to get to know Brooklyn well at all. I’ve never even been across the Verrazano-Narrows. Staten Island might as well be Madagascar.
All of that being said (sorry for the wordiness), I’ll try working on northern Queens to start. We’ll see what happens from there.

I used to live in Queens, but that was before I drove a car.
Staten Island is where my wife was born and I get there a few times a year. I’ll be back there at the end of the month actually. Each time I am there I spend some time working URs there.
Anyway, start with what you know and remember you aren’t the only one working to clean up NYC

Glad to read you’ll be back and updating NYC, especially since you’re more experienced and more able than I. Will start with what I know.
Wanted to take the opportunity to thank you publicly for other fixes you’ve done for me in the past.
AND, I hope you didn’t take my comment about Staten Island as an insult. That comment was meant to say more about ME and MY lack of knowledge than anything else, a la the old cartoon on the cover of the New Yorker:

I didn’t take the SI comment as an insult at all. I understood you meant that you just didn’t get over there.
My wife on the other hand, SHE may have though differently because she is actually from that trash heap in the water :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
I am of course just kidding, but Staten Island is an odd place. It doesn’t know if it wants to be NY or NJ, suburban or urban, developed or rural. It has it all in such a small place.
Personally, I think that New York State should just give all of NYC and L.I. to New Jersey, for two reasons: 1) it’s a better fit geographically (like Michigan’s U.P., which geographically should belong to Wisconsin – no offense meant to any Yoopers out there … my wife was born in the U.P. also); and 2) New Jersey is the only state that would take NYC & LI without having to pay it to take them off of our hands! 
Of course, probably the better option is for them to just form their own state, considering how little consideration/cooperation exists between upstate and downstate NY. :?
Yeah, I’m from Upstate New York … and the view from here just goes due east past Binghamton … nothing exists southeast of there. :lol: :lol:
If you really want to change things, South Jersey should go to DE, central Jersey should go to PA, and North Jersey should be part of NYC. Northwest Jersey can go to PA also if they want it.
Or just make the entire North East Corridor a separate linear state :lol:

cfbronx has been doing an outstanding job in Manhattan and the Bronx. I’m not sure who, but Staten Island is also clean.
I spent a lot of time recently tackling Long Island including Queens and Brooklyn.
Now hopefully we’ll get an update soon and see all these changes in the client.

Ive been cleaning and driving around Staten Island checking and double checking reports and red lights, etc… So I take that as a complement…
With the construction taking place on the SIE, there have been a lot of UR’s lately about missing roads and on ramps/exits, as seen in the below permalink…
I try to avoid the SIE as much as possible, but may be worth taking a drive up there at some point and get a feel for what is going on.
A lot of this may have to do with insufficient road types too. In NYC, especially, our little correlation rules of shield type to road type don’t work very well. For example, just glancing at Brooklyn, I don’t see any red or yellow in the WME - Just the I-278 and the Belt Pkwy freeways around its permiter. You cannot honestly tell me that the borough of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people does not have any kind of arterial roads criss-crossing it, whether major or minor, even if they are not state or federal routes.
Also, there have got to be some designated arterial routes across Manhattan as well. The only roads in all of Manhattan with any kind of shield is SR-9A on the west side and the little pieces of I-95 and US-9 at the northern tip. Does that mean they and the FDR/Harlem River Drives freeways are the only arterials? I don’t think you’ll find many people trying to get from New Jersey to Long Island driving around the bottom of Manhattan to get from the Lincoln Tunnel to the Midtown Tunnel. If not, how are you supposed to get across town?

i would like to help, but i am new here and i am not sure how to go about it, i live in the bay ridge area of Brooklyn and know the area well, please fell free to message me back with a starting point, and maybe some tips on what you disused here. i have already started to clear UR but it is a slow process as i don’t want to make any more mistakes. thanks John
