Parish support for Barbados?

On a recent trip to Barbados, I gave Waze a try for the first time. The results were not very good. Routes couldn’t be calculated to get around. Both Google and Apple maps were better. So I’ve decided to start working on the Barbados maps to try and make Waze better than the others.

One of the first things I’ve noticed is that there is no support for Parishes on the island. While they are smaller than states in the US, they do divide the island into 11 geographical regions. Right now, it appears people have been using the City field to contain both the city and parish. This makes it confusing and really clutters the map. Take a look at

https://world.waze.com/editor/?zoom=2&lat=13.07954&lon=-59.56939&layers=BFTFFTTTTFTTFTTTTTTTTTTFT&segments=199262886

and you’ll see what I mean.

How hard would it be to add in Parish support? When I edit street details, I notice that there is one less field than in the US (no field for state). Can the state field be converted to cover parishes?

If not, is there a recommendation as to the best way to address these?

Thanks,

Steve.

Ok, I guess I’ll reply to my own post.

I see quite a few people have looked at this, but I don’t know who. Is there anyone with Waze that can tell me if this is possible, or forget about it? I don’t know what the server code looks like, but it shouldn’t be that hard to modify. I understand that there’s plenty of fish to fry, but if this is something that’s being considered, it would be nice to know. I’ve been working on cleaning up a few areas of Barbados, so it would be nice to know if a change is coming.

Thanks for all the great work!

Any chance of having support for parishes added? I completely agree with Steve that adding the parish name to the city field just confuses the map.

I’ve been torn with this problem.
Initially I was only putting the city and not bothering with the parish name, but then when someone does a search for Edey Village for instance (they are two, one in Christ Church, and one in St. John) or Flat Rock of which there are three…I think, they can run into problems identify which one they want to drive to on the app.
So I have started back putting the City, Parish.
If there was a separate field for Parish, it would be great.
Country
Parish
City
Street

I have the same problem… I was putting the parish info in the State field but it is not the same thing… Dear WAZE big-shots, please give us the option for “Parish” Support, I am sure Australia and England have had to have been given consideration for this.

Can we in little Barbados?

Adrian

At the moment, Waze only gives support for state (province, or parish) to the United States… and recently started a test for the world server in Argentina,

It seems that it is not so easy to implement and the idea is to go country by country.

In any case, In Europe it is not implemented for any countries yet… :frowning:

We’ve had them in Canada for a while, but needed to beg and plead.

Our provinces are (almost always) the size of several states combined… but there were few duplicate city names.

My suggestion would be to strip the parish out of the city names, except when it’s necessary to have it to prevent two places from being the same name. (e.g. Edey Village and Flat Rock should all get their parish name or abbreviation after it).
