We are now being told that we have Parking Lot Area guidance.

Parking lots are now to be mapped. Please read through the wiki to familiarize yourself with the details.
Wow. This is a lot to absorb, and a far bigger job than the SL project was.
Not really. Start with the big, popular lots. A lot have been imported already.
IMO there are a lot more parking lots out there than major roads that needed SLs, when you consider that the PLA definition reaches down to lots with less than 10 spaces after we get the bigger ones done. That, and we don’t have the ability to use multi-select tools to pick a bunch at once like we did with roads, and the details screens are pretty in-depth… I do think it is a bigger job.
Lest this sound like complaining… sorry, not meant to, just observation. Progression, not perfection… onward. ![]()
There’s a lot of work out there, and it all counts towards your edit count. People in big cities that have been refined to the hilt now have something to work on to get their edit count up.
I have done some rummaging around and as yet have not found guidance on residential parking lots, frequently but not exclusively at apartment complexes.
This type of parking area clearly exceeds the 10-space requirement for PLA creation, but the parking areas are often widely distributed amongst the buildings in a complex.
Additionally, the typical user of these lots lives there and does not require guidance to know where to park.
The root of why I ask about if this has been addressed is in the explosion of PLA map problem reports in WME, a fair number of which are being generated at apartment complexes. If we clear these as unworked, are they going to keep being regenerated? Or are we going to map residential parking lots?
Anyone know?
If/when you map a parking lot like that make it Private. Basically it’s to let Waze know there’s a parking lot there, but it won’t suggest it if someone in the area asks for a parking lot. Use Restricted for things like business parking lots that say for that business only. Use Public for any lot with no restrictions.
It’s unknown if PLARMPs will come back if you mark it as not identified. I’ve only use NI for the malls or other large polygons that already had PLAs yet a PLARMP showed up.
If you have PIE script installed activate the “Show Parking Lot” button. Then when you have an already listed Place open you get a P button to click. Click that, then click and draw the Parking Lot Area polygon. When you’re done the name will already start with “Parking - (Place name)”. Make that Restricted or Private (or Public if warranted) and go from there.
