Parking Lot Guidelines

Here are a series of parking lots and parking garages drawn by a new map editor.

I never added them myself, because I felt that the Wiki Waze direction strictly instructed us to not add parking lots when they exist for anything other than general public parking (something like that). I struggle with the rule, or my interpretation of it, since parking garages are very useful to folks visiting new areas for events.

Should we delete these and send the user a note, or should I be adding them myself?

Additionally, he has drawn inter and exit roads that are not junctioned to the main roads since the main roads are locked at level 5.

Thank you all for any experienced insight you can share with me.

Thomas

Well obviously the entrance and exit roads are wrong on quite a few levels (and unnecessary). Go ahead and send a PM to the editor about those.

I am not a fan of seeing a lot of landmark areas on the map (don’t get me started on gas stations!) but I do see how they could be useful is some areas (such as the Arena District). On the other hand, once you get near your destination, be it the arena, sports venues, theatres, etc, there are usually plenty of signs directing you to parking.

In short, I have not been adding them myself, but unless they obviously violate the guidelines (the parking lot at Starbucks, for instance) I leave them alone.

Thanks Tim. I really think that maybe there is still more clarity that can be added to wiki-waze regarding the Parking Lot guidelines. I am too new to know how tenured wazers go about discussions and finalizing the guidelines. It occurs to me that some roads showing entrances and exit the parking lots or garages could be useful. For instance, the Nationwide garage on Front street has 3 entrances and 4 exits. However, only monthly parking pass holders (I am one) can use 3 of the entrances and exits. That leaves 1 for folks coming to pay (exceptions for events when the gates are lifted and folks collect money on foot). So, it seems to make sense to add the single entrance and exit that the general public would be able to use. I’ll send the user a nice note, direct them to wiki-waze and sit tight as usual.

Ohio should follow the work in progress national guidance for Parking Lots. Although it is still in refinement, it is likely to not change significantly. Therefore it is the best advice currently available.

If you feel the areas mentioned in your opening posts qualify, please edit the entrance and exits appropriately and request that they be connected to the rank locked roads accordingly.

For the moment I have not added any Parking Lots myself, nor have I deleted any created by others until we finalize the guidance.

If you question the use of parking lot roads or parking lot places, please inform the editor of this guidance.

Thank You.

Also be advised that these guidelines may change soon in case some part of the upcoming new Places functionality depends on them somehow.
